Ingredients 

  • 1/3 C softened unsalted sweet cream butter 
  • 1 C warm milk 
  • 1/4 C sugar 
  • 1 egg (room temperature) 
  • 1 tsp salt 
  • 3 1/2 cup flour 
  • 2 tsp instant yeast 
  • 1tsp vanilla

Instructions:

  1. First, in a large mixing bowl, combine your butter, milk, egg, sugar, and vanilla. 
  2. Add your dry ingredients: flour, yeast, and salt. 
  3. Knead the dough in a mixer with a dough hook attachment on low speed then slowly increase speed to medium until smooth and not sticky. This takes about 8-12 minutes to do 
  4. Then, place the dough in a large bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise for about an hour. Once the milk bread dough has doubled in size, punch the air out and place the dough on a floured surface. 
  5. Start shaping the dough into four equal pieces and roll each section to make layers. 
  6. Next, place each roll into the pan lined with parchment paper and greased. Cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise again for 30 minutes. 
  7. In a small bowl, whisk an egg and brush the top of the dough with the egg wash. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit in a preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let the bread pan cool and move to a wire rack if you have one. 
  8. Brush with melted butter and enjoy! French Sweet Milk Bread
