6 Tips for Kid Happy Vacation

6 Tips to Make Your Holiday Vacation a Hit with Your Kids

The ubiquitous family vacation is perhaps one of the most enduring elements of Americana. Everyone wants to plan the perfect kid happy vacation.

From road trips to Disneyland to exploring the great outdoors together as a family, every year, hundreds of thousands of families flock to hotspots around the country to enjoy time together.

While mom and dad may be hoping to experience fine cuisine or relax on the beach, little ones often have an entirely different idea of fun.

Fortunately, finding the balance between the two doesn’t have to feel like a mission impossible.

Use the following tips to make certain your upcoming holiday vacation is a blast for everybody!

1. Choose Kid-Friendly Destinations

While perhaps a no-brainer, too many families forget to check ahead of time to make certain their hotel or resort is a kid-friendly retreat.

Top-quality restaurants and talented masseuses are amenities that make grown-ups drool, but kids need something to do while mom and dad are de-stressing. Look for destinations that include fun outdoor pools and kid-themed activities.

Finding a destination that makes sense for small kids is made easy online. Several great resources exist where you can read reviews on hotel properties and learn more about the different features each has to offer.

For example, if you were visiting the Kawartha Lakes, you may want to look into cabin rentals kawartha lakes. They’re a little different from other hotels and apartments, which means that you’re kids will feel a sense of adventure as they step into their cabin, whether it’s lakeside or nestled in the woods.

With nature on your doorstep – your kids will be able to laugh, run and play with abandon in a way they simply would not be able to do in a city. You also do not have to worry about disturbing the neighbors!

Beyond this, staying in this kind of accommodation gives you the opportunity to teach your kids more about nature and the world around them – meaning your holiday is both fun and educational!

This makes planning a kid-friendly trip a piece of cake.

2. Make the Journey Part of the Fun

Spending endless hours on the road or waiting in an airport is no fun for kids.

You may be counting on them loving the great activities they’ll experience once you have arrived, but if the voyage is a bust, that’s likely what they will recall in a decade.

Make the journey fun by packing activities they can enjoy along the way.

You have several different options available to keep your kids occupied. Board games, books, and cards are usually good for a few hours of entertainment.

If all else fails, pack your portable video player and let them watch a few of their favorite movies.

3. Involve the Whole Family in the Planning

If you are still undecided about where to head on your next holiday vacation, why not ask the whole family for their opinions? Getting the kids involved is a great way to build anticipation for the upcoming vacation.

It can also provide you with some great ideas for what your children would like to experience on the family trip. Keep in mind that it can be a good idea to stress that no brainstorming sessions are absolute.

If your children are set on diving with the dolphins and you instead choose to hit the mountain slopes, you could have a disaster on your hands.

4. Plan Age-Appropriate Events

Families with multiple children need to plan their holiday vacation effectively, or someone is bound to be left out of all the fun.

Pick destinations that have activities for kids of all ages to enjoy.

For example, if the beach is your destination this year, pick a resort that has a kiddie pool for the little ones and big slides for the teenagers.

You’ll all get to spend time hanging out together, but your older kids won’t feel tethered to your side.

5. Play to Your Kids’ Interests

Your children are sure to love any activities that relate to things they love. If you know your son loves sharks and fish, why not plan a trip to the aquarium?

If your daughter is a shopaholic, plan some girl time at the mall. By making events revolve around the kids, you guarantee they will be talking about this vacation for years to come.

6. Remember Mom and Dad

If your kids have a great time but you’re left feeling exhausted, the vacation hasn’t accomplished its purpose. Think ahead and plan events you would like to enjoy.

Choose resorts that have childcare services, or consider taking along an older teenager from another family who can earn some cash babysitting while you spend time with your spouse. Happier parents ultimately equal happier kids.

Planning the ultimate family vacation can feel like a major challenge.

Armed with the right tools, however, you’ll be ready to make this kid happy vacation, one to remember for a lifetime.

By planning ahead and making certain to take care of the details ahead of time, you’ll be one step closer to guaranteeing a great time will be had by all on your next holiday vacation.
