Kirigami Tulip Instructions:

Get Started:

Step 1: Select medium-light-weight colored craft papers for this craft. Select a colored craft paper for the kirigami tulip pattern and select green colored craft paper for the stem and leaf pattern. Prepare a 4”x4” square sheet for the tulip.

Step 2: Fold the paper in half vertically.

Step 3: Then, fold the current paper in half again, vertically.

Step 4: Unfold the entire paper.

Step 5: Fold the paper in half twice like before, but this time make horizontal folds. Unfold the entire paper again.

Step 6: Then, make diagonal half-folds and then unfold.

Time for Scissors

Step 7: Notice that there are a total of 16 square creases on the current paper. Use a pair of scissors to make slits along the middle crease on each open edge.

Step 8: Make slits along all 4 middle creases (crease of 1 square on the edge) on the open edge.

Step 9: Now, we will work on both sides of the slit. Fold the open corner of both sides of the slit towards their opposite closed corners.

Step 10: Similarly, fold in the sides of the rest of the slits.

Step 11: Apply glue on the triangle folds, between all 4 slits.

Step 12: Next, join the 2 adjacent glued parts to close that side.

Step 13: Join the next 2 adjacent parts of the pattern.

Step 14: One by one, join all 4 parts to close all 4 sides of the paper pattern.

Your Tulip is shaping up!

Step 15: Neatly push in the bottom creases (creases on the closed side of the tulip pattern). This will give the tulip a finished look.

Step 16: Cut out leaf shapes from green-colored craft paper and cut out a 2”x4” green strip for the stem.

Step 17: Coil the strip diagonally from a corner to create a straw-like shape. Apply glue on the open end to secure the shape.

Step 18: Cut any one open end of the paper straw into 4 even parts.

Almost done!

Step 19: Apply glue on the outer sides of the straw slits and join it with the paper tulip on its bottom closed side.

Step 20: Attach the paper leaves with the stem to complete the craft.
