Wonster Words aids in the teaching of Spelling and Phonics, which builds strong literacy skills.
About 77 Sparx the maker of Wonster Words
77SPARX was founded by a parents with young children. As the founders observed their own children learning to play with iOS, Android, and other touch-screen mobile devices, it became clear that these devices could play an important role in how kids learn critical skills – from cognitive skills, social interactions, to reading and math.
At 77SPARX, we are not just another children’s toy company. While we believe that everything we do should be engaging and fun for the young children who use our products, we also believe that everything we do should support the varied learning needs of children across the globe.
Wonster Words, one of many educational apps created for kids by 77Sparx, was designed to teach ABCs, Spelling, and Phonics skills to preschool and early elementary aged children. The app is free, however it also has an upgrade that gives you access to a wealth of educational play.
The games are set up like puzzles in which the user must drag each letter to it’s place to spell a word. As the player drags the letter, they can hear the phonics sound. Once the word is spelled, Wonster Words will spell each letter of the word and say the word to reinforce the proper spelling and pronunciation. Next, the child will watch a short cartoon skit that acts out the definition of the word. The word is used in a sentence and the definition is shared.
There is a new game on the Wonster Words app called Birthday Surprise. In this particular game, the player is challenged by increased difficulty levels with each word. As they spell a word correctly using the same puzzle drag and drop format, they may open a birthday present surprise. It is loads of fun because they keep clicking on the gift as the ribbon and paper come off and the surprise gift bursts out!
Wait, there’s more. As the surprise is unveiled, they will gain additional knowledge by learning about the surprise gift. For example, one of the gifts I opened during my review was the Trident. Wonster Words showed me a picture of the Trident, how to spell it, what it is used for, and a little history about it.
As a homeschool parent, I know how hard it can be teaching Spelling and Phonics. I noticed that Wonster Words has a th and ph consonant blend game. Those were two consonant blends that seemed to be the most difficult to learn in our homeschool. Wonster Words definitely holds a lot of value for parents, teachers, and students.
Wonster Words is a fun tool that will help you teach your children or give them the extra practice they need without seeming like extra practice! 😉 You may download Wonster Words on all iOS and Android compatible devices.
