4 Nutritious Family Foods for Youngsters and Parents Alike

August 21, 2017 by Pam Maynard

Eating healthy food does not have to mean eating food that tastes bad. When you have youngsters in your home, you likely do not want to make a meal for them separately from the meal for grownups. Try these four nutritious foods that everybody will like.

4 Nutritious Family Foods for Youngsters and Parents Alike

Baby Carrots

Baby carrots are a nutritious food choice for the whole family. Parents appreciate that these carrots do not need to be peeled or cut. Just wash them and pack them for a snack. They are sweet when eaten alone, or they can be paired with a dip such as buttermilk ranch dressing, hummus or another dip of choice. Baby carrots are also affordable, and they last for a few weeks in the refrigerator.

Artisan Bread

Artisan bread is another ideal choice for parents and youngsters. Artisan bread is tasty alone, or you could pair it with a nut butter and honey or jam for a sandwich. Some companies, like Klosterman Baking Company, know that you can also try dipping it in olive oil as an appetizer or afternoon snack. Artisan bread could also be paired with cheese or butter, soup or salad for a light lunch.

Mozzarella Cheese

Mozzarella cheese has a mild flavor. Kids will recognize it as a topping on pizza. It can also be eaten straight out of the refrigerator. Pair it with some artisan bread, fruit and veggies for a picnic lunch. When purchased as individually wrapped cheese sticks, mozzarella is convenient for parents who are on the go with their youngsters. Mozzarella cheese is easy to trim into funny shapes with small cookie cutters for a special lunch or morning snack for the kids.

4 Nutritious Family Foods

Pumpkin

Pumpkin is often only consumed as pie in the autumn months of the year, but this nutritious food is good to enjoy all year long. A few tablespoons of pureed pumpkin could be added to spaghetti sauce for a boost of fiber and vitamin C. Pumpkin could also be added to baked goods such as chocolate chip cookies. Pumpkin bread is also tasty, with or without the chocolate chips. When baked goods include pumpkin, they tend to hold their moisture and softness longer than they would without the pumpkin.

These palate-pleasing foods can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Each of these foods is also easy to find. You could choose organic versions of them if you prefer. Most of these foods are easy to transport and bring along with you when running errands or if you have to eat while traveling.
