DIY Fall Candle Tutorial: A Cozy Craft for Autumn

As the crispness of autumn settles in and golden leaves swirl outside, nothing feels cozier than the soft flicker of candlelight. And when that candle carries the spicy, comforting scent of fall? Pure magic. 🍂✨Making your own DIY Fall candle might sound a little intimidating at first, but I promise—it’s easier than you think!

This little project is quick, beginner-friendly, and the end result smells like a pumpkin spice latte wrapped in a cozy blanket. Today, I’ll walk you through how to make a small 2-ounce fall-inspired candle that will fill your space with the scents of cinnamon, clove, ginger, and sweet orange.

DIY Fall Candle

Whether you’re crafting just for fun, making gifts for friends, or adding a homemade touch to your autumn décor, this DIY fall candle is the perfect seasonal project.

Why This Candle is Perfect for Fall

This essential oil blend is basically autumn in a jar. Cinnamon brings that warm, spicy kick, clove adds depth, ginger gives a little zing, and sweet orange balances everything with a cozy citrus note. The orange dye is optional, but it really makes the candle look as festive as it smells.

And because this recipe makes a petite 2-ounce candle, it’s a great size for gift-giving, stocking stuffers, or creating a whole collection of seasonal scents without using up tons of supplies.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Fall candle

Here’s everything required to whip up this cozy little candle:

  • 2 ounces soy wax (or beeswax, if you prefer)
  • Orange candle dye (optional, but it adds a lovely autumn hue)
  • 12 drops Cinnamon Bark essential oil
  • 8 drops of Clove essential oil
  • 6 drops of Ginger essential oil
  • 6 drops of Sweet Orange essential oil
  • One 2-ounce jar
  • Wick

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Melt the wax
Add your soy wax and a touch of orange candle dye into a jar or heat-safe container. Slowly heat it in a double boiler until the wax is fully melted, stirring occasionally. This helps the color blend evenly into the wax. fall candle

  2. Prep the jar
While your wax is melting, place the wick in the bottom of your clean 2-ounce jar. A little dab of melted wax can help secure it in place if it doesn’t stand upright on its own. fall candle

  3. Add the fragrance
Once the wax is completely melted, remove it from the heat and let it cool for a minute or two. When it’s slightly cooler (but still liquid), stir in your essential oils. This blend will give your candle that iconic pumpkin spice scent we all crave this time of year. fall candle

  4. Pour and set
Carefully pour the scented wax into your jar, making sure the wick stays centered (we used a wick holder). Allow the candle to sit undisturbed until it hardens completely. fall candle

  5. Trim the wick
Once the candle is solid, trim the wick down to about ¼ inch. Now it’s ready to light and enjoy!

FAQs About DIY Fall Candles

Q: Do I have to use soy wax?
A: Nope! Beeswax is a lovely alternative. Just note that beeswax has a natural honey scent, which will slightly change how the essential oils smell when burned.

Q: How long does a 2-ounce candle burn?
A: Typically, around 10–15 hours depending on how often you burn it. It’s small but mighty!

Q: Can I swap out the essential oils?
A: Yes! Feel free to play around with your favorite fall scents—like vanilla, nutmeg, or even cedarwood for a woodsy vibe.

Q: Do I need the dye?
A: Not at all. The dye is purely for looks. If you love the natural creamy color of soy wax, skip it!

Final Thoughts

Crafting your own fall candles is such a rewarding (and fragrant!) project. It’s quick, simple, and makes your space feel instantly cozier. Plus, it’s a fun way to experiment with different scent blends and colors as the seasons change.

So the next time you’re craving a little extra autumn magic, gather your supplies and whip up this DIY fall candle. Light it up, grab a cozy blanket, and let the pumpkin spice vibes fill your home. 🍁🕯️
