Could You Be Experiencing Hearing Loss?

July 21, 2022 by Pam Maynard

When you’re experiencing new symptoms with your ears, it can be hard to tell if what you’re experiencing is hearing loss or something else. There are many causes and symptoms surrounding hearing loss, and it’s not always something you should be alarmed about.

However, some forms of hearing loss are permanent, and you should be sure to seek the attention of a specialist as soon as you can to take action. There are many hearing aid benefits that you shouldn’t go without for longer than necessary.

Here are some signs that you could be experiencing hearing loss, and should make an appointment over.

You have to try hard to listen

If you find yourself feeling tired after a conversation, it could be because you’re having to try a lot harder to listen and understand what the other person is saying. Hearing loss isn’t always something that’s going to be a complete change of what you hear – it could start with very subtle muffling of what you’re hearing.

If this is the case, it could be caused by a number of different things. You could be experiencing hearing loss due to impacted wax, damage to your inner ear, or an ear infection. In any case, you could consult with a professional to get it sorted.

Hearing Loss: Signs and Causes

Your TV is often too loud

If you’ve ever had company over and they’ve made comments about the volume of your TV, it could be a sign that you need to have things louder than others would. While it might not be alarming to hear that your TV is too loud, it could be a pointer that you’re experiencing hearing loss.

Try to listen to your TV at a volume that your guests find comfortable, and see how easy it is for you to hear and understand what’s being said. If it’s not a problem for you, then you can disregard this as a symptom.

You avoid phone calls

These days there are many people who would rather text than call, and there’s nothing generally wrong with wanting to avoid phone calls. However, if you were someone who used to prefer talking on the phone but has recently shied away from it, it could be a sign of hearing loss.

Those experiencing hearing losses tend to avoid situations they find difficult without knowing what the cause is, and phone calls can be particularly difficult to understand. Without being able to read the lips or facial expressions of the other person, it can be very hard to make out the message.

You often ask others to repeat themselves

Unless the person you’re speaking with is mumbling or speaking under their breath, having to ask them to repeat themselves often is uncommon. If you’re having trouble understanding others when they talk, it’s a sign your hearing is not what it used to be.

Speak with an audiologist or other kind of specialist, and they can help you to get to the bottom of what you’re experiencing.

It might be that you need to undergo some hearing tests for adults, but at the end of it you should have a clear idea of what kind of position you are in and how serious it is. From there, you can then see what treatment you might require.

The good news is that there is always a way forward, so try to bear that in mind as best as you can.
