Top Tips For Long, Healthy Hair

December 17, 2021 by Pam Maynard

Getting long, luscious locks is no easy feat. There are hundreds of so-called miracle options out there to grow your hair fast, from biotin pills to vitamin E supplements. With so many natural treatment options, getting the Rapunzel hair you’ve always dreamed of doesn’t have to be hard.

Just remember, no matter what trick you use, you can’t make your hair faster from the root. However, you can help it to grow healthier, so you have longer, stronger hair that is less prone to breakage.

Do A Scalp Massage

You can spend so much putting time and money into using different hair products that it can be easy to forget where hair growth actually begins: your scalp. In the same way that you need good soil to grow healthy flowers, you need a healthy scalp to grow health hair. A scalp massage has beneficial effects on stress hormones, blood pressure, and heart rate.

An easy way to encourage hair growth is to give yourself a scalp massage. Massage increases blood flow to the scalp, enhances the strength of your roots, and helps nutrients get to the hair follicles faster.

You can give yourself a scalp massage with dry hair, but adding an oil that is rich in nutrients to get even more benefits. If you have oily roots, keep this treatment to once a week.

Try An Egg Yolk Mask

On average, hair grows about a quarter to a half an inch each month. You can’t speed up this growth, but you can affect the quality of the hair shafts that your follicles produce, to get thicker, stronger, shinier hair.

You can stimulate a high percentage of hair follicles in the scalp, which will help more hair in the growing phase and make your head of hair thicker, healthier, and fuller. How you treat your hair is crucial for hair growth.

If your hair breaks before it reaches your shoulders, an egg yolk mask could help you. Eggs contain lecithin and protein, which strengthen and nourish your hair. The high sulfur content could also help with dandruff.

To make this egg yolk mask, mix 2 eggs with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add half a cup of water to dilute the mixture and make it less sticky. Apply the mask to dry, brushed hair. Leave the mask to sit for about half an hour, and then shampoo and condition as normal.

Check Your Medications

Some prescription medications are known to be associated with hair loss. Some of the most common culprits are anti-hypertensives, cholesterol or statins, hormones replacements, and some antidepressants. Always talk about the possible side effects of any medications that you might be taking with your doctor. If your hair is thinning, and you’re on any medication, it could be worth raising your concerns with your doctor.

If you can’t grow the long hair of your dreams, you could try tape in hair extensions to get the look while you wait for your medication problems to be resolved.

Do A Hot Castor Oil Treatment

Castor oil is an overlooked hero for healthy hair. If you’re already a fan of using coconut oil, then you should try castor. Castor oil has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties to help combat scalp infections that prevent your hair from growing.

It’s also packed with omega-6 fatty acids, vitamin E, proteins, and other nutrients that can penetrate your hair strands and seal the hair shaft to trap in moisture. It’s great for hot oil treatment. Massage the oil into your roots to help your scalp take in all the nutrients and help to promote hair growth.

To give yourself a hot oil treatment, massage the oil into your scalp and apply it all the way to the ends of your hair. Pile your hair on top of your head, cover it with a shower cap, and then direct a blow dryer at your head for 15 minutes. Once you’re done, shower and condition as usual. Your hair will feel softer immediately.

Avoid Smoking

By now, we all know the risks of smoking. As well as being bad for your overall health, smoking causes problems for your hair too. Smoking restricts blood flow to the scalp and hair follicles, which will restrict the oxygen and nutrients that your hair and scalp need in order to be healthy. The toxins from smoking can seep into their hair follicles and cause disruption to hair growth.

Swap Hair Growth Supplements For Healthy Fats

You can easily take a hair growth supplement, but research is still divided on how effective supplements like this are and whether or not they actually help your hair to grow faster. These supplements can also contain a lot of minerals and vitamins in levels much higher than you need them, which can cause breakouts.

Changing your eating habits could be a better way to get longer hair. Vitamins and minerals that occur naturally in food are easier for your body to make use of, and they will deliver a healthier ratio of nutrients.

Your diet should have plenty of healthy fats in it, such as omega-3, in order to encourage hair growth. Healthy fats are essential for healthy hair, as our bodies can’t produce omega-3 fatty acids on their own. It’s important to get these fats into your diet. They nourish the hair follicles and make your hair stronger and shinier.

Good sources of omega-3 include salmon, tuna, flaxseed, walnuts, and plant oils.

Limit Heat Styling

Top Tips For Long, Healthy Hair

This is not a new tip, but it’s worth repeating. Any hairstylist will tell you that the most obvious and easiest way to help your hair grow is to ditch your hot styling tools. Blow dryers, straighteners, and curling irons can all damage your hair by making it dry and braille.

If you are trying to grow your hair out, avoid heat tools whenever you can, and let your hair air dry instead. If you do need to use these tools, make sure you always use a heat-protecting spray.

Avoid Over-Shampooing

Over shampooing can lead to hair that is broken, dry, and brittle, as washing too much can strip the hair of some of its natural oils. Depending on what type of hair you have, the number of times you shampoo your hair in a week will vary.

It is important for us to know how often should african americans wash their hair. If you have thicker, coarser hair, you can get away with not washing your hair for a few days, whereas if your hair is thinner, you might find that your hair feels greasy after much less time. Dry shampoo can help you on those in-between days to soak up excess grease without stripping your hair.

DIY A Cinnamon-Based Mask

Cinnamon has antimicrobial properties, which can mean benefits from your hair. It can stimulate blood circulation and nourish your hair. Mix equal parts cinnamon and coconut oil, and apply the mix to the hair, focusing mostly on the roots. Leave the mix for 45 minutes, and then rinse.

Trim Your Split Ends Regularly

If you want to grow your hair longer, trimming it might sound like the opposite of what you should do, but in fact, a regular trim will get rid of dry, damaged split ends. You need to do this for natural, healthy hair growth. If you leave your split ends alone, they can soon work their up the shafts of your hair strands, causing even more breakage.

Top Tips For Long, Healthy Hair

If your hairdresser takes too much off the length every time you go to the salon, your hair won’t end up longer, so make sure you let them know you’re growing your hair and only want a tiny amount off.

Depending on the condition your hair is in, what style you have, and what your daily routine is, you could need to have your ends trimmed anywhere from every six weeks to six months. The better you are caring for your hair every day, the less often you will need a trim.

Brush Gently When Detangling

Detangling knots in your hair is never a fun task, but you should never rush it. If you often just yank a brush through your hair in a hurry, then you need to rethink your hair care habits.

If you don’t take proper caution when you brush your hair, you can cause the strands to break and split. This is the opposite of what you want if you’re growing your hair long. When you brush your hair, go slowly and be gentle. It will take longer, but your hair will thank you.

The brush you use can also make a difference. A brush with metal bristles does have its purpose, but a wide-toothed comb, a detangling brush, or a paddle brush with rounded bristles are all much better options for brushing through knots a lot more gently, with minimal breakage.

When you brush your hair matters too. Don’t detangle just after your shower, which is when your hair is at its most fragile. Instead, comb through any knots before you wash your hair.
