Essential Nutrients That Your Body Needs

February 1, 2021 by Pam Maynard

Achieving overall good health is something that we all strive for. Having a healthy mind and body contributes to an enjoyable and fulfilling life filled with growth and opportunity. However, due to the increasingly busy lives that we all lead in the modern world, it can be difficult to ensure that the body gets everything it needs daily.

This guide will help you to understand the essential nutrients that your body needs.

Essential Nutrients That Your Body Needs

Vitamin D

Known as the ‘sunshine nutrient’, vitamin D is found naturally in sunlight and contributes towards keeping our bodies fit and healthy. Included amongst its many functions is its role as a regulator of calcium.

Vitamin D contributes to the body’s absorption of calcium, and this is why they are often found together in supplements.

It’s not always easy to get your daily dose of vitamin D – especially during the winter months. Due to this, the UK Department of Health advises that you should take a vitamin D3 supplement throughout the year.

As well as in sunlight, vitamin D can be found in all types of different foods. Variations of the vitamin, such as vitamin D3, is found in animal-sourced foods, mainly in fish such as salmon and sardines.

Essential Nutrients That Your Body Needs

Those who follow diets may be especially susceptible to low vitamin D levels in the body and should look for a supplement that works with their diet to offer them the recommended dose of vitamin D.

Iron

Iron is needed to help the body to metabolize drugs and other substances. It has long been used alongside other vitamins to reduce fatigue and tiredness. This is because iron is required for optimal circulating levels of oxygen and energy use by the body.

It also affects the activity of the heart, liver and muscles, making iron supplements are a good thing to add to your daily routine.

Essential Nutrients That Your Body Needs

Calcium

Calcium is one of the most important nutrients needed in the body. According to many health professionals, including the NHS, calcium contributes to keeping your bones strong and healthy. Bones themselves play a vital role in a healthy life and body as it is within bones – in the marrow – that blood cells are manufactured.

Additionally, bones also provide the body with its stability and core strength. Milk and other dairy products are good sources of calcium, but seeing as the body cannot store calcium, it is important to consume it every single day.
