4 Ways to Encourage Your Child’s Development in Their Early Years

August 5, 2019 by Pam Maynard

Positive childhood development can start in your son’s or daughter’s early years. By fostering a positive sense of development from an early age, your child can grow to become a well-rounded individual in many areas of life. Here are four great ways to encourage your child’s development in their early years.

4 Ways to Encourage Your Child's Development in Their Early Years

Hold “Conversations” with Them

Even though your son or daughter might still be too young to hold a conversation, making efforts to engage in pretend conversation can help build excellent communication skills. Using simple words with an upbeat tone in your voice can make your child more eager to engage in the best way they can. Using animated facial expressions as you hold these “conversations” is also a great way to teach your child cues about certain emotions and behaviors.

Encourage Exploration

Encouraging your child to learn will give them the chance to learn new things while satisfying their curiosity. If your child is able to crawl or walk, you can set up toys and other kid-friendly items around a room in your home to encourage your little one to explore while being under your supervision. Watching your child move around in your yard is another great way to promote exploration.

Consider Private Daycare

Enrolling your child in private daycare may be beneficial in teaching your child how to interact with others. Finding a private daycare center where fewer children are enrolled will give your child the opportunity to receive more one-on-one attention from a provider while still having chances to interact with the other children. Any private daycare provider that you choose should be licensed, screened carefully and meet other state requirements to ensure safety.

Provide Interactive Toys

Many interactive toys for young children are designed to teach skills that enhance development while still being fun when playing with them. Toys with flashing lights and whimsical sound effects are sure to spark your little one’s interest. Musical toys can also keep young children engaged. Charming characters are included with certain toys to further entertain kids. Some interactive toys also have animal themes as well as themes of educational subjects such as simple science and word skills.

There are many ways to help your young child’s development that are fun and can teach your little one a variety of useful skills. Working with your child to promote better development can set a strong foundation that will be beneficial for life.
