Develop Cognitive Skills in Your Child with Songs for Kids!

March 16, 2019 by Pam Maynard

Do you remember the time when you were a small kid? Parents and teachers used to sing to you. As you grew older, it became hard for you to remember even simple things; for instance, the place where you left your car keys. Go back into time and think again- there is a special reason why parents and teachers sang songs with you- they helped you to remember things developing your cognitive skills in the process. Think again and see you still have not forgotten those nursery rhymes in school and they still stick with you as good as new!

Develop Cognitive Skills in Your Child with Songs for Kids!

Teaching children with the power of songs

Songs and nursery rhymes help children to remember things and learn. This is why modern schools and educators make use of songs and music to teach kids. Songs make the child remember things for the rest of their lives. These songs are not taught to the child for social and behavioral skills. They encourage the child to expand communication and vocabulary skills as well.

Foster relationships and bonding

The rhymes taught to pre-school children are like bridges that foster bonding and relationship. With songs, your child will find it more exciting to interact with you. When you sing these songs for kids the different intonations and tones will help the child learn accents and natural sounds of the language of the song. With rhyming words, they are able to understand how to use these different sounds to create words.

Songs make them better readers

When you expose your kids to songs, you make them better readers. In fact, they naturally pick up reading skills, and you need less effort to teach them. Children get the chance to learn new words and figure out how to use them correctly. They are able to pronounce words without problems. They learn to speak slowly and clearly. Children love to imitate their parents or parental figures. With songs and movements, children find the learning process more interactive. They pick up songs fast, and they feel comfortable to join you in playful learning.

Teaches children how to perform things

Some songs teach children how to do things. Songs like “I’m a Little Teapot” teaches children about things and how to use them. If you closely observe children, they like to see the same cartoons over and over again. Seeing or repeating things over and over again helps them to learn things faster. Most songs for kids have repetitive words so that they can learn faster and enjoy the interactive process with you!

Last but not least, songs for children help them to learn vocabulary faster. Research has shown that those children that learn with songs are able to express themselves better over kids that are not taught with songs. Singing also helps them to learn more and more words. They are able to improve communication and social skills. This, in turn, enhances spelling and reading. With the passage of time, the child becomes confident and more creative with success!
