5 Signs Mom and Dad Need in-Home Health Care

July 21, 2018 by Pam Maynard

It can be upsetting to realize that your parents can no longer care for themselves. As people age, their physical and mental health can decrease substantially. This is nothing surprising, but it can be much harder to process when it happens to loved ones. It can be easier if you are aware of the signs in advance. Here are five signs Mom and Dad need in-home health care.

Recent Injury

Injuries are often caused due to absent-mindedness. However, when one ages, their coordination can decrease dramatically. Whether your elderly mother or father bruised their knee or broke their leg, all injuries should be concerning. In-home care can install safety measures and provide immediate assistance in the event of an emergency.

Mental Lapses

If your parents have had trouble remembering certain information or realizing where they are, you have cause for concern. If their minds aren’t clear, they could get themselves into all sorts of danger. In home health care services mean that someone will be there for them to help them through bouts of confusion.

Trouble Performing Basic Tasks

You can put on your shoes and change a lightbulb without a second thought. When you age, it might take substantially more time. If your elderly parents seem lost when doing things that used to be second-nature, you should get them help. They shouldn’t have to suffer through the pain of trying to do something they’re incapable of.

Not Following Health Practices

It can be easy for your elderly parents to forego things like medication or proper diet. They likely aren’t doing so deliberately. They just are having difficulty with structure. In-home care can make sure they’re taking their medication as needed and eating properly.

Disarray

Does your elderly parents’ home look disheveled? It can be challenging for elderly people to maintain a clean household. They might lack the energy or mental ability to keep it tidy. When they have in-home care available, they don’t have to worry about keeping things clean.

When you get in-home health care for your elderly parents, you do a favor for both them and yourself. For them, you make sure that they have proper medical attention all day. For yourself, you relieve yourself of the feeling that you need to always be available for them. By obtaining this service for them, you can show just how deep your love is.
