8 Natural Stress Relief Methods

April 8, 2022 by Pam Maynard

Considering the stressful and chaotic times that we live in, it’s no wonder that people are feeling more stressed than ever. There are so many things happening in the world, and on top of that, everyone is dealing with their own personal issues as well.  While stress is something that most people regularly experience, you shouldn’t let it get to the point where you feel that it’s controlling your life. We all need to learn natural stress relief methods to help us cope.

That’s why this post is here to share eight natural methods that can help you relieve stress so that you can live your healthiest and best life.

Try these stress relief methods:

A massage

When we are constantly stressed, we tend to carry that tension around in our bodies. A massage is a great way to get rid of some of this tension and allow your body to relax. This will in turn help your mind relax as well.

If you want to spoil yourself, you can book a spa treatment. Another great option is to invest in a massager. Back massagers come in a wide variety of designs and features, so you will undoubtedly find one that works for you.

Herbal medication

In some cases, you may need to go on medication to help with your stress and anxiety. However, many prefer to avoid that unless they have exhausted all other options.

Luckily, there are plenty of different natural and herbal medications that claim to help reduce stress. While the accuracy of these is not always guaranteed, they might be worth a shot. You may also find it helpful to talk to your doctor about which herbal remedies they would recommend when it comes to stress management.

Herbal medication alone may not eliminate your stress, but in conjunction with the other methods on this list, it can help a great deal.

Exercise

Another great way of relieving stress is to exercise. Regularly exercising has many benefits for both your mental and physical health, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t incorporate it into your lifestyle.

Keep in mind that you should find an exercise that you like. If running or going to the gym isn’t for you, you can consider going for a daily walk or doing yoga a few times a week.

Meditate

A big reason why many people feel stressed is that their brains are constantly overwhelmed by a million thoughts, which is of course not ideal. In order to combat your stress, you need to put in the time and effort to allow your brain to relax.

Meditation is a great way to do this. By taking the time to meditate, you might even discover the root of your stress.

If you’re new to meditation or struggle with it, plenty of websites and apps offer guided meditation to help you get the hang of things.

Change your diet

You might be noticing a trend – taking better care of your physical health often results in a positive change in your mental health and stress levels.

Many people turn to food as a source of comfort when they’re feeling stressed, and they often eat a lot of junk food or other unhealthy foods. However, there is a link between nutrition and mental health, so the healthier you eat, the better your mental health may be.

Changing your diet to be healthier may give you more energy and an overall uplifted mood, which could be immensely helpful when it comes to lowering your stress levels.

Work on your sleep schedule

Sleep and stress often go hand in hand – if you’re not sleeping enough, or you are sleeping erratically, you may be more prone to feelings of stress.

You should, therefore, try to stick to a proper sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at around the same time each day. This can be hard, especially if you struggle to fall asleep. A great tip is to put away all screens such as your phone or laptop an hour before bed and try to relax by listening to music or reading a book instead.

Spend less time on your phone

We all have the habit of spending hours each day on our phones, but did you know that doing so could make you feel more stressed?

Without us realizing us, social media can often affect our mental health because we are often bombarded with negative news, and we also tend to compare ourselves to other people we see on social media, which could lead to feelings of inadequacy and stress.

Besides all of that, if you are constantly staring at a screen, your brain doesn’t get the chance to switch off and unwind. Click here for some tips on spending less time on your phone.

Aromatherapy

Our senses play an important role in our emotions, and yet we often forget about our sense of smell. The truth is that aromatherapy has been around for many years, and for a good reason. Certain scents help to relax both your mind and body, which can help greatly with your stress levels.

Invest in an oil burner or diffuser to see if it helps. You should do some research into which scents are best for stress relief. If possible, try to take a nice warm bath with candles and some relaxing scents, or try a bath soak for aching muscles. You will feel less stressed afterward.

In conclusion

If you are struggling with stress, don’t worry – it’s a common feeling. We all get stressed from time to time, and that’s normal.

That being said, you should still try to reduce your stress levels in whatever way you can, because if you don’t, your stress will get worse over time. If you’re not ready to go onto medication yet, there are plenty of natural ways for you to reduce and relieve your stress.

However, if none of them work, there is no shame in seeing a doctor or therapist and asking them for help.
