What To Pack When Traveling With A Baby

December 23, 2021 by Pam Maynard

When traveling with a baby, it is essential to pack everything your little one needs. Whether it is a bottle, pacifier or nipples, you will want to keep your little one entertained. If you are traveling with a newborn think about your postpartum needs as well, including natural birth recovery products from trusted sites like Bellefit.

The infant’s first trip will probably be the most stressful of all, and even a ride in your best stroller may not do much to calm your child if you are not prepared enough for traveling.

You would want to make sure you have all baby essentials on hand as you may not be able to buy those items from stores during your travel. Let’s go through the items so you don’t have to stay clueless or anxious thinking about what to pack when traveling with a baby.

Things You Should Pack in Your Child’s Carry On Bag

  • A pacifier will keep your child entertained for a long time, keeping your baby happy and preventing your child from crying. Bring a few pacifiers to help soothe the baby to sleep as well.
  • You will also want to take along some favorite outdoor toys or illustrated books to keep your baby entertained during the trip.
  • Whether you are traveling by car or by plane, you should pack a waterproof diaper bag. A good diaper bag will make the packing process less complicated for you.
  • Liquids and medicines should be packed separately. Some diaper cream is handy if your baby is prone to diaper rash.
  • Baby food like baby formula is a must! If your child is already old enough for solids, bring along some easy snacks for your child (and also do pack some snacks for yourself) to endure the long road trip or plane trip.

What To Pack When Traveling With A Baby

  • Wet wipes are a lifesaver – remember to pack plenty.
  • Diapers – pack about two days and nights’ worth just in case. No doubt, you can always purchase diapers at your destination, but be sure to pack plenty so that you don’t run out at crucial moments. Babies need more diapers than adults, so if you have a lot of extras, you can put them in your bag and keep your suitcase small.
  • Pack an extra change of clothes for baby and you, in case of spit-ups or soiled clothes
  • Baby bibs
  • Baby bottles – you can bring along two if you use them
  • Resealable or storage bags to put soiled clothing or items
  • You should also take a nursing pad with you if you’re breastfeeding.
  • Travel documents like passport

Things To Pack For Your Child’s Suitcase

  • Baby stroller and car seat, preferably portable or lightweight ones
  • Breast pumps – ideally, the portable ones
  • More diapers and wipes and diaper cream!
  • More engaging toys or items to keep your little one entertained, including teethers
  • Baby’s body wash and lotion
  • Baby’s clothes, depending on the duration of your travel
  • Playmat, because baby needs his or her playtime!
  • Baby monitor can come in handy to monitor your child in case you have to sleep in separate rooms or areas
  • Baby utensils, bottles (if you need more), sippy cup (if your child is of the age to transition from bottle to cup), bottle brush
  • Weather-specific gear or clothing such as gloves, thick winter clothing, swimsuit, sun hat, etc. Don’t forget the sunscreen if you and baby will be outdoors for the most part.
  • First-aid kit is good for emergencies, so try to bring it along. You can also pack in nail clipper if you will be traveling on a long trip with your baby.

What To Pack When Traveling With A Baby

Depending on the destination, a car trip will allow you to take bigger baby items, like your child’s portable pack and play for sleeping. A plane flight will require you to pack a lighter bag with fewer items. Plan ahead so that you are prepared for carrying adequate baby essentials while being aware of the travel requirements pertaining to things like gate-checking stroller, car seat and more.

Wrapping Up

And when you’re traveling with a baby, it’s important to prepare the baby for any kind of emergency. It’s not uncommon to have to buy additional items when you are traveling with a baby, though buying items before the trip can help you avoid buying things that you don’t need and being in a panicky situation.

Make sure you set up a travel checklist in advance so that you are less likely to forget the important things to pack along. Once you have all your child’s items ready in the carry-on bag and suitcase, you are all set to go on a more relaxing holiday with your little one!
