As society evolves in technology and switches more and more towards an online model, it can be tough to find time to spend with your children. They are constantly immersed in their phones, television, or video games. Therefore, to get their attention and spend quality time with them, you have to find a way to appeal to what they want and convince them it’s time better spent with you. Here are some ways that you can spend more quality time with your kids:
Scrabble
Scrabble is a board game that has been around for decades and has always been extremely popular. So much so, it is one of the first board games to have an online app created for it to allow people to play each other from anywhere around the world. If you are looking to spend time with your kids however, you will want them to sit down and play a good game with you. Scrabble is a game that has you unscrambling letters to form words and then placing them on the board for points. If you aren’t that good at unscrambling letters, maybe using this tool could help you figure out what words you can make, therefore making the game that much easier. If this is the first time your kids are playing the game, they might need a little help. These unscrambling tools are great for getting them started, to learn how to form words from random letters. Soon they will be hooked and playing many more games with you. Scrabble is a great way to spend quality time with your kids.
Geocaching
This is a great activity for you and your kids to get outside and go on walks. Geocaching is an activity where using online GPS coordinates, you track and find a package that is hidden somewhere in a location. Once you find the package, you open it up, see what is inside, then write your name on it and leave it so another group can find it. Kids love scavenger hunts and love the prospect of finding something that is hidden. The walk will provide you with a great opportunity to talk with them and their excitement will keep them coming back for more. If you want to take it a step further, you can create your own geocache for them filling it up with items that they can keep. Geocaching is another great way to spend time with your kids.
Camping
If you are worried that your son or daughter spends all their time on their phone, a camping trip would be great for the family. As you are far away from the city, cell phone service is going to be very poor, therefore they will have no choice but to put it away. Camping isn’t an easy thing where you can sit around either. Together you will all have to put a tent up, gather materials for fires, and find innovative ways to cook food. Camping really brings people together as you are forced to spend time with other people and work with them to survive in the woods. If you want to spend quality time with your kids, plan a camping trip and bring them along.
Go Out for Dinner
Kids love the idea of going out for dinner and eating different types of foods. Look into going out to a restaurant once every few weeks to change up the meal dynamics and give you time to get to know them more. Everyone knows it’s rude to use your phone at a dinner table, therefore they will have no excuse for not spending time talking to you. Dinners at restaurants can usually last up to two hours also, ensuring that you get plenty of time with them. It doesn’t have to be a sit-down restaurant either, the thought of taking them to a fast-food restaurant will excite them. Look to take your kids out for dinner if you want to spend some more time with them.
It can be hard to find time to spend with your kids in this day and age. Having to compete for their attention does not make it any easier. Look to engage them with fun board games such as Scrabble, or take them into nature with activities like geocaching and camping. Finally, take them out for dinner and enjoy a nice family meal together. There are so many activities that you can do with your children. What do you plan on doing with them?
