Baby Clothes Material Guide

February 20, 2020 by Pam Maynard

You have a lot of responsibilities as a parent, especially if you’re the type of parent who shops carefully. With all the things your child will need from the time they’re born until they move out on their own, every parent has to spend a lot of time shopping. Baby clothes can be one of the toughest things to get right. Thankfully, this baby clothes material guide has all the basic information you need to pick the perfect baby clothes.

Baby Clothes Material Guide

Cotton

No matter what type of clothes you’re shopping for, cotton is always going to be one of the most popular options. Not only is cotton widely available, but it’s also used in numerous applications because it’s got a nice mix of softness and absorbency. If you like the idea of cotton but want something a little more environmentally friendly, a baby clothes online boutique that offers organic cotton clothing may be a better choice for you. One thing to keep in mind if you buy cotton clothes is that they can shrink up to 10% when you wash and dry them the first time.

Cotton/Polyester

While cotton has a lot of great properties, some people prefer to blend it with something to add to those properties. Cotton/polyester blends are among the most popular baby clothes material choices because they dry quickly, they’re affordable and you don’t have to worry about wrinkling as much. Cotton/polyester blends don’t shrink, either, which means buying the proper size is easier. However, some babies’ skin is too sensitive for polyester.

Cotton/Spandex

When it comes to finding some of the most comfortable clothes for your baby, cotton/spandex blends can be a good choice. Babies aren’t incredibly coordinated, which means they tend to mess their clothes up a bit after you’ve put them on. Unfortunately, this can lead to clothes that are too tight or awkwardly stretched around a certain part of the body. Cotton/spandex blends are very stretchable, which allows your baby to move around as much as they want without having to worry about uncomfortable clothes putting a stop to playtime.

Fleece

Cotton and its many blends may be the most popular choice when it comes to standard baby clothes, but nothing beats fleece if you’re looking for good baby outerwear. Babies hate being cold, and fleece is one of the warmest materials out there. On top of that, fleece is very soft so it isn’t too restricting or scratchy. Fleece is even moisture-wicking, which helps keep your baby clean and dry. This is a great material choice for all seasons.

Choosing the Right Material

When you’re looking for the best baby clothes for your baby, there are a lot of things you need to consider. Cotton is great if you’re looking for tried and true baby clothes that are good for softness and absorbing moisture. Organic cotton is even better if you want to be an eco-conscious parent and keep your baby comfortable. However, there may be times when you need cotton/poly or cotton/spandex blends to make sure your little one is comfortable. No matter what you do, make sure you invest in some fleece jackets for a convenient outerwear option during the cold seasons.

Everybody knows having a baby is a lot of work, but a lot of people don’t know how much work goes into shopping for a baby. From car seats to clothes, you need to make sure you’re getting all the best products for your baby. Fortunately for you, this baby clothes material guide can help you pick the perfect clothes to keep your little one comfortable and warm.
