4 Activities to Boost Your Kids’ Confidence

July 7, 2019 by Pam Maynard

One of our most important jobs as parents is to build up our child’s confidence so they will be ready to go off on their own someday. With all the other worries we face as parents, raising a confident child doesn’t have to be one of them. There are several things you can do with your child to boost their confidence and help them become strong, self-sufficient adults.

4 Activities to Try with Your Kids to Boost Their Confidence

Encourage Them to Help Others

Helping others is good for the soul, and it’s also a terrific way to grow a child’s confidence. Knowing their actions can have a positive effect on another person’s life can make them feel proud and give them a sense of purpose in life. There are thousands of volunteer opportunities for children, so find something they are passionate about and encourage them to help out.

Help Them Find a Hobby They Enjoy

Too many kids are glued to their computer or phone screens throughout the day, leaving them limited opportunities for social interaction. It’s important for a child’s growing mind to have interaction with real people throughout the day, particularly their peers. While school provides some opportunity for this, a hobby or sport outside of school gives a child a chance to connect with others who have similar interests. This can lead them to develop strong friendships, a passion for their hobby, and an abundance of confidence.

Make Time for Family Time

Whether you work in the home or outside of the home, it can be a challenge for us to really connect on a personal level with our kids. Busy schedules can drive a wedge between families and lead to very limited interaction. Quality family time is crucial for a child’s physical and emotional development because it forms a strong bond that can last a lifetime. When a child knows they are loved at home, their confidence in other areas soars.

Bring in the Experts

Sometimes, as parents, we don’t have all the answers. We may try everything within our own power to help our children gain confidence and it still might not be enough. That’s when it’s time to seek assistance from local counseling services, like Lifeline, that are specially-trained to help children through a variety of mental and emotional health struggles.

If a child has confidence, they can make it through anything life throws at them. Be your child’s biggest supporter by encouraging them to try out these confidence-boosting activities.
