How to Decide What’s for Dinner Tonight

September 8, 2018 by Pam Maynard

There’s no other question that is quite as dreaded as “what’s for dinner?”. Whether you’re asking it yourself, or your children are hungrily and impatiently wondering, coming up with new and creative ideas for your nightly family meal can be quite the challenge.

How to Decide What’s for Family Dinner Tonight

Quick Family Dinner Ideas

You don’t have to be a master chef to think on your feet for quick dinner ideas. With a bit of planning and creativity, you can give your family a fun night and great food. Read on for four fast ideas for dinner this week.

Host a Potluck

While this idea requires a bit of forethought, it is an easy way to put a tasty meal on the table. Invite friends and neighbors for a potluck, asking each person to bring a dish. By inviting four or five people, you’ll be able to plan a quick meal and a fun night in.

Meal Prep on the Weekend

Meal prepping is one of the most cost-effective and time-saving ways to tackle the dinnertime blues. Start on a Saturday or Sunday and cook enough meals for the entire week. Once cool, serve and pack the meals away in Tupperware containers that each family member can then heat up during dinnertime. Meal prepping is also an excellent way to teach your children to cook. Instead of doing everything yourself, split the preparation process into tasks that each child can do themselves. This gets the job done that much faster and gives you a chance to share a teachable moment with your children.

Check out Local Deals

When the dinnertime family meal comes into question, take this opportunity to be adventurous and spontaneous. Do a quick search on the Internet for local seafood restaurants and deals for them. Treat your family to a night out. Your children will love eating out at their new favorite seafood restaurant while you get to take a break from cooking.
