Get Your Kids Curious with Get Qurious #MegaChristmas17

December 21, 2017 by Sherryl Wilson

If your kids are like mine, they love to play with their tablets. I do let them have time to play their games, but when the weather is bad or we’re looking for more learning opportunities, I like having other options available for them to use. So now you can get your kids curious with Get Qurious augmented reality sets! Let me tell you more about our experience with them.

About Get Qurious

Get Your Kids Curious with Get Qurious

What is GET QURIOUS?

GET QURIOUS is an award winning set of AR Educational toys and Learning games that sparks children’s curiosity, imagination, and discovery as they create stories, assemble puzzles, role-play, or engage in other age-appropriate games and activities that encourage STEM / STEAM / STREAM learning (STEM BOX for kids 4-8 yrs). The EXPLORER Box is a 2017 TILLYWIG BRAIN CHILD AWARD Winner.

The Magic of Augmented Reality

Each GET QURIOUS set of AR Educational toys & games (STEM Box) come with a Augmented Reality app magically that brings the physical activities to life! Children can play with the activities on their own, but exciting new animations pop up when they scan them with their mobile device. Kids can build-a- story and read along with the animated screens, put on a mask and record their own versions of a story, create many different, colorful 3D animations with their puzzle selections, and play 3D discovery and adventure games in brilliant 360° worlds!

My Review

We already participate in several STEM/STREAM activity groups both online and locally, so the kids and I are already familiar with the concepts and type of play they tend to encourage. For example, even building with plastic blocks or being creative with art projects can be a great way to combine skills and creativity. Goodness knows if the kids can make a mess and/or use their hands, they are thrilled from the start!

So what is special about Get Qurious? Well, they have different box sets available for purchase. We started off with the Explorer Box and the Maker Box Sets. While they both encourage play and learning, each box has a different theme or topic.

EXPLORER BOX: GET QURIOUS EXPLORER BOX and Augmented Reality app bring the adventures of Manu & his friends – Leo and Emma – to life as they blast off into space together. The fun experience of combining physical game pieces with an interactive world encourages curiosity and imaginative play. The EXPLORER BOX helps you create your own stories, build different spaceships and maneuver them within 3D space animations, record stories with four masks of your GET QURIOUS friends, and discover hidden artifacts in four brilliant 3D animated space worlds.

The Explorer Box is out of this world (literally) as the kids get to play with aliens and space! This particular box contains character masks as well as story & problem cards, treasure maps, and even parts to build their own in-app space ship. The kids, working individually or together, work on telling a story, and either listen or read along as the tale unfolds. Since you can make different choices, the story can be different every time. Plus they can record themselves with the masks on and have them play back as part of the story or game! The app helps bring the characters to life by using 2D objects (like the masks and maps) to the screen. By moving within a circle, the kids can even explore the planet together with a 360 degree viewpoint.

MAKER BOX: GET QURIOUS MAKER BOX and Augmented Reality app bring the Three Little Pigs’ adventures to life! Children can play with each activity on their own, but new animations pop up when they scan them with the corresponding app on their mobile device. They can read along with the animated stories, put on a mask and record their own versions of the story, enjoy the various colorful 3D animations of their finished puzzle, plus add reusable stickers to the sticker book, and enjoy the various new animated tales they create.

The Maker Box was a new and fun way to explore the beloved tale of the Three Little Pigs. By scanning the cards that came in the box with the tablet & app, the story is brought to life for the child to enjoy. Just like with the Explorer Box there are several characters masks included for the kids to play with also.

There are also puzzle pieces to build their house, view through the app, and have it show up in 3D magic. Finally they include a sticker book with reusable stickers to play with again and again, which they can scan and hear their story being told to them.

I think either box would be wonderful for children who are learning about exploring, creativity, and electronic devices. The Maker Box was definitely geared towards a younger age group than the Explorer Box, but the kids surely can figure them out with just a little help if needed. Plus if they are using them together in a group, it’s a great way to learn how to help each other as friends and classmates/siblings, not always as a bossy one.

The Get Qurious app is free, but it’s only available from the Apple Store to use on iOS devices.

Make sure you check for compatibility before setting up the app & box sets. There are two Get Qurious box sets available for purchase currently: the Explorer Box and the Maker Box.
