I’m sure you’ve heard about the bad water quality and unhealthy chemicals being found in drinking water around the country. I know our local district does their best to keep us safe and protected, but how can we be sure we’re drinking healthy water? Sure, you can have companies come out and charge you a big fee to do a lot of tests, but what if you could do them yourself at home? Then you’d know if your water is safe to drink or not!

My Thoughts
We tried two different tests with EnviroTestKits. The first one was the Safe Home® “LEAD” test. The test information says it tests not only the drinking water but also if there is lead coming from our fixtures or pipes! I hadn’t thought about it coming from the pipes itself but I suppose that must be an issue too, especially in older homes. The other test we tried was the SAFE HOME® DIY BACTERIA TEST. They are testing for Total Coliform & E. Coli in your water. I found out that the presence of Coliform isn’t necessarily harmful like E. Coli can be, but it may indicate there are other harmful bacteria in the water.
The test for lead was easy to do with the instructions. You fill two vials with water from your home, fill out the paperwork and return them in the prepaid mailer envelope. Then the lab emails you the results of both vial test results so you know pretty quickly about any lead levels in your drinking water. We tested several places around our house including the kitchen and the bathroom sink. Don’t worry, our results were fine (phew)!
So for the second test which was looking for bacteria levels, you actually don’t mail this test in to the lab. Following the instructions, you gather the water sample and simply monitor the vial for 24-48 hours. Different shades of color are matched to the included chart which will indicate if you have any issues with your sample. This almost became a game at the house as all the family members kept coming to check, just to see if we were safe!
EnviroTestKits offer several levels of test kits depending on what you need, whether you need the basic DIY test or several kits to be able to check for other metals, organics, herbicides, etc. The directions are easy to follow and as if knowing if your water is safe to drink, with each kit purchased, ETK donates to several nonprofit organizations to help fund their clean water projects around the world! Be sure to get your kit today so you know if your water is safe to drink for the health and peace of mind for your family.
