My Review
Not only is giving a gift to a child make your day, but if it’s something you made with your own hands, specifically with that child in mind? The look on their face of wonder and delight makes the time and effort put into that gift totally worth it! Recently, one of the young princesses in the family started learning about animals, beyond the “what sound do they make?” level of interest. She even has an under the sea lamp display in her room at night with various sea creatures that shine on her wall and ceiling.
When I found an octopus pattern in the Sew Cute Patterns design choices, I knew that was the one I would start with first. The instructions are available for download in a PDF format, which include a supply list and then step by step instructions, including several images to go along with the step. For the octopus, I had most of the supplies in my craft room from other projects, mostly several colors of felt pieces, a glue gun & glue sticks, plus googly eyes and crystals and a needle & thread.
I won’t list all the steps for you, but I found it pretty easy to follow the instructions that were included. After I printed the patterns and instructions, I traced the patterns on the colored felt pieces and carefully cut them out. Then following the steps on the instructions, I began sewing and gluing the pieces together. Several pieces required some hand-stitching while others were easily completed with the glue gun.
When I was finished, I almost didn’t want to give her up! She was so cute and cuddly looking that I really considered making another one to give to the princess LOL! But after I showed the stuffed octopus to my sweetheart, she started clapping and instantly wanted to keep it, so I gave in.
And it’s not just an octopus you can purchase for download, but there are other patterns like a caterpillar, a pencil, cats, turtles and more. They even have kits for rag dolls, pillows, ornaments, etc. So there is something for every skill level and interest. Even if you are a novice sewer, they have a Sewing Bee University on their website that has several basic techniques including both written & video tutorials.
Did I mention several of the patterns also have their own storybook that the kids can color to go with their soft & cuddly friends? It’s a great surprise as we read the story together that stars their very own stuffed toy which they can then color to their heart’s content.
