Do you remember a few years back when people started hiding trinkets and they gave the coordinates so people could find them? Well, now people are hiding rocks! Yep, of all things…rocks.
My crew loves to paint rocks and then go hide them somewhere in a public location. They post hints about where they can be located in an online group. It has become a fun family outdoor activity where we first find rocks that others have hidden as well as go and hide our rocks for others to find.
We recently received a package of different paint markers and crayons from Carmel Industries. Carmel has been manufacturing industrial paint markers, crayons, chalks and pencils since 1974.
Our package included Wide Tip Water Base Markers (the kind you would write on a window), Paint Markers (with a find point for more precision writing), and Paint Crayons (large crayons that will write on metal, wood, and other rough surfaces).
Paint Crayons

Paint Markers

These markers are available in White, Yellow, Orange, Red, Light Blue, Blue, Pink, Purple, Brown, Black, Silver, and Gold
WOW Markers
Ideal for vivid markings that wipe away with a damp cloth from: glass, windshields, vinyl chalkboards, non-porous menu boards, whiteboards, metal boards, corrugated plastic and other non-porous surfaces. Also used for permanent markings on poster board. Water based paint marker/liquid chalk: No VOC’s, solvent free, non-flammable, odorless.
These markers are available in White, yellow, Orange, Red, Blue, Green, Black, and Pink
Our Thoughts:
Learning to use the markers did have a learning curve because you have to apply pressure to get the paint to flow to the tip of the point. Once the crew figured it out, even the younger ones were able to use at least the fine point paint markers.
The WOW markers are great for writing on a mirror or other non porous surface. They wash off with just a damp towel but make sure the surface is non porous.
Care needs to be taken when using the paint crayons as you are applying paint..not a crayon. So make sure you are sure about the surface and design before you let your little one start drawing on something around the house!
We enjoyed using the paint markers on our rocks, the WOW markers on our windows and mirrors, and the paint crayons were used on the street to paint patterns for the little ones to use when bike riding. I am not sure how long the designs will be visible on the street, but so far they are holding up pretty well.
