4 Tips To Help Bolster Your Teen’s Confidence

August 15, 2017 by Pam Maynard

There are a lot of ways to work with a teen so you can boost their confidence. Before you can do so, however, you may want to read here. You’ll get 4 good tips that should help no matter what your teenager is like.

Tenn confidence

Keeping Teeth In Good Shape

Most people will tell you that their teeth are an important part of their look. If you have a teen that needs braces or to have dental issues fixed, don’t wait too long to help them out. You could also consider consulting dental professionals, like those at Cobbe Dental & Orthodontics, to help answer any questions you may have.

Give Compliments When You Mean Them

If you are going to praise your child, limit how much you do so. You want to give them praise if they do something well but not so much that it starts to mean nothing to them. If they are trying to do something and fail at it, tell them you’re proud of them for trying and that you notice their efforts.

Let Teen’s In On Decision Making

Let teenagers make their own decisions, when possible. For instance, if you want them to do dishes a couple of times a week you could ask them which days they’d like to do them the most. If you are always arguing with your teenager to get this or that done, that does nothing more than cause problems. By finding a happy medium where they do what they’re told but on their terms too, it boosts confidence.

4 Tips To Help Bolster Your Teen's Confidence

Avoid Making Light Of A Teen’s Issues

Teenagers have a different view on what makes life hard. A conflict at school, for instance, can be earth shattering to a teenager. Instead of blowing it off and telling them that it’s not a big deal, listen and give advice. Say something about how you’re sorry the event happened, what you’d suggest, and that they did the right thing by coming to you to ask for help.

When you have a teen, you have to think about how hard it is for them to basically be stuck in between child and adulthood. If you can work on boosting their confidence, they stand to do well in the world. Launching them into an adult life will be easier if they have the will to try their best.
