Some people say a shirt is just a shirt but is that really true? Do you think history can seep into the very fibers that hold the shirt together? Gant, Inc. is a company rich with history, pride in their work and where quality is embedded in every stitch.
Anyone who knows me knows that I love stories and history is stories of those who came before us. When I received this shirt for review, I wondered why it was special. I’m not a person who typically looks at labels, I normally look at the product and decide if it’s something I need, want or have to have. When this shirt from Gant came to my home, immediately, I knew it was special before I even opened the box.
For starters, the shirt was packaged so carefully and meticulously. It was delicately laid in the gray box and wrapped in tissue paper. Normally when I order products and clothes online, they come in plastic bags and that’s about it. So, right away, this was special.
Gant was founded by a Ukrainian immigrant who learned about clothing manufacturing when he was working his way through college. He didn’t want to leave just a business to his kids, he wanted a lasting legacy and that’s exactly what he did with his company.
Gant focused on not only his product quality, he also wanted to be innovative at the same time. His company was based in Connecticut, close to Yale University. With all of the ivy league students around, he learned what was in style and what people liked.
Gant developed bold-colored shirts, referred to as the ivy-league look. It was a dashing and debonair look that men of that time were looking for. You see, before this color explosion in time, men’s shirts were typically plain, basic, and white. Other traits that were developed by Gant is his perfected collar (another story altogether), the locker loop on the back of shirts, the box pleat on the back of shirts, the button tab, and the back collar button to keep the tie in place.
So, to answer my own question, what is so special about this shirt? It’s a beautiful shirt, constructed with high-quality cotton, it has details that are original to its name and it’s rich with the history of our country.
