Toys are made to teach, because children learn the best through play.
Some toys are played with once or twice, and never heard from again. But the most innovative and well-designed toys get played with again and again.
These toys that teach from some of my favorite brands make great baby and holiday gifts. They spark imagination and get your child thinking and learning.
HABA USA Rainbow Rocket:
Made from durable wood and non-toxic paint, this unique stacking toy will keep little ones engaged while encouraging fine motor skills. It took M a few tries to get it right, but once he did, he couldn’t stop.
The rainbow rocket also teaches the color wheel, problem solving, and many other crucial life skills. The various shapes also help M learn about different shapes, beyond “square, circle” and how to recognize them.
With nine totally different blocks, it features hours of entertainment, but not too many pieces to lose.
Yookidoo Spin ‘N’ Sort Spout Pro
How do you make bath time fun for a child who doesn’t like them? Yookidoo has their award winning bath toy line to show you! The Spin ‘N’ Sort Spout Pro is full of both fun and learning opportunities.
The battery operated pump allows your child to play with the spout without actually wasting water, as it draws water from the tub and the water goes right back in. The three stacking cups have variously placed openings so that your child gets to see the different effects. The matching gears include shape and color recognition challenges.
But my favorite part of this toy is the STEM challenge involved in figuring out how to make those gears spin! While bathing M the other day, it took him a few minutes, but I loved watching the gears in his own brain work as he figured it out. And when he succeeded, he felt so good about it!
“ Boosts fine motor skills and hand eye coordination while promoting reasoning and problem solving as children create moving experiments with spinning, colorful action“
The big button that activates the water flow is so easy for kids to use, allowing them to be in control.
InRoad Toys PlayTape Classic Rail Series Railroad Track
Now that PlayTape has such beautiful railroad tracks, I think we need to get some toy trains so that we can stop driving our cars and trucks on the railroad! But either way, PlayTape has entertained us for hours with their opportunities for pretend play that take over the regular play areas.
While we may still be using our monster trucks on it, the PlayTape Classic Rail Series is actually scaled to be used with common play train sets. Combine this with any of the toys you already own – such as blocks, building bricks, magnetic toys – to create a large scale pretend village.
It’s a truly simple toy with a huge variety of uses. It can stick on virtually any flat surface, is easy to tear, and removes smoothly.
InRoad Toys PlayTape Curves
Want to take your PlayTape to the next level?
You can now round the bend with PlayTape Curves! These are just like PlayTape, but they are slightly rounded so that you can do that much more with your PlayTape.
Don’t underestimate the power of play! These toys that teach show you just how fun educational toys can be.
