Nonna Box- A Taste of Italy
While I was growing up we were always at my Great Grandma Angiolini’s house for Sunday Brunch. She was the best cook hands down. Due to her and my Grandfather Lanzafame on the other side of the family, Italy was never very far. She was from a small town near Rome, and he came over from Sicily. It was a blessing to hear Italian spoken in the home and to develop a love for my heritage. I was lucky enough to make it to Italy once with my high school many years ago. I loved every thing about that beautiful country, and therefore was content to never go back home.
Unfortunately I could not stay, and my wonderful grandparents are in Heaven now. I still love Italy and would go back if I could. One day I may, but until then I can still have Italy in my home through Nonna Box. Nonna Box is a monthly subscription or a one-time adventure of gourmet Italian products that will highlight a different region each month.
Inside each box you will find 6 full size imported, Italian products from one region. It will contain beautiful cards describing the products and their local uses and importance. A local nonna from that region will be featured, as will 3 of her favorite recipes. It will immerse you in authentic culture and cuisine.
My box had Elderflower soda, Zabajone Al Moscata(dessert Moscat0 cream), honey, Carnaroli rice, dried porcini mushrooms, and corn cookies all from the Piedmont Region. It was nice that the cards told me how I could use the products since some items are unfamiliar to me. The dessert cream can go inside two cookies for a unique dessert treat. The cards gave several options for how to use these delicacies.
The recipe cards were helpful and I was able to make Rissotto con funghi porcini with the Carnaroli rice, the porcini mushrooms, and some staples from my pantry. It was yummy and it was my first time ever making Rissotto. I may not be in Italy today, but inside my kitchen you would never know thanks to my Nonna Box.
The great thing is every month it would be new and interesting gourmet treasures right to your door. This is a perfect gift for a traveler in the family, or for anyone who loves Italian cuisine. It is novel and something special they could not just grab at a local store.
