Health Tips to Fight Viruses & Infections

February 23, 2016 by Pam Maynard

As an ENT, or otolaryngologist, specializing in issues of the ear, nose and throat. There are many issues that could be reduced by a new lifestyle approach. Healthier eating, learning to move more and enjoying good relationships in your life will drastically improve your health. Common viruses and infections are greatly reduced when patients follow some easy Health Tips.

  • Whole foods– getting back to basics and away from processed, high sugar foods is the number one way to improve your health. Once you begin eating organic and raw foods your body will begin to heal itself because it is getting the vital nutrition that it needs.

  • Replace Processed Foods– While you are eating whole foods, you will begin replacing processed foods that are designed to be addictive and not at all healthy. You will also replace sugar, which is very dangerous and addictive. Sugar has been shown to be as or more addictive than cocaine. It is not healthy at all for your body; in fact, it is very dangerous and unhealthy. By replacing processed and sugary foods with real whole foods, you will not have so many cravings for the addictive foods.
  • Beverages– Start drinking more water. Again as a replacement to sugary, chemical filled carbonated drinks. There is no nutritional value in carbonated drinks; they are extremely dangerous for your body because of the high sugar content, the chemicals and caramel coloring. By consuming more water you are rehydrating your body that has been depleted by caffeine and sugar in carbonated drinks. Your body needs hydration from water to survive properly. Most people do not like water when they are trying to make better beverage choices. You can add lemon to your water, or drink organic green teas, this gives your body much needed water, but still gives your brain flavor. Try to limit your intake of fruit juices, most are processed in a way that your body does not benefit from the fruit. And they are very high in sugar content, even if it is not added sugar; your body still reacts the same way to fruit sugar as it does to processed sugar. It is better to eat raw, whole fruit because the fiber balances the sugar intake and your body will not spike insulin as badly as it does with juice.

  • Exercise– Do not thinks that you have to start a class at the local gym or have some crazy workout routine. To start out, just make sure that you start moving more. Walk instead of drive if it is somewhere close, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and Stretch every morning when you first wake up, get your muscles warmed up from sleep. Take walks with your family, friends or pets. Or you could partner up with a family member or friend to begin a light exercise program, yoga is amazingly easy and is great for your body. It is low impact so it is perfect if you are out of shape and need to start really slow. You will be amazed how yoga can not only help your body, but it can be a great time to meditate as well.
  • Primary Foods– This part is not food at all, but it has much to do with your overall health. Primary foods include your relationships, your career and your mental health. If your life is full of high stress, this causes your body to react to counteract the stress. So eating all the healthy foods in the world and exercising does not do a complete job if your emotional health is poor.
