To make our Lalaloopsy inspired cupcake stand all you need is a cardboard cupcake stand, collection of buttons in your desired color scheme (miscellaneous sizes), and a fully loaded hot glue gun! ~ Easy Peasy!
Believe it or not, when I opened my cupcake stand I was missing a trim piece. Instead of panicking I went ahead and used the stand provided anyway. I actually prefer the look of the stand with the buttons only on the rim — if it works for you too, you may want to consider leaving off the stand’s trimming altogether.
About those cupcakes! I used a simple box cake mix with a few extra eggs added for a bakery-style cake. My daughter likes simple, not overly sweet, so we went with a classic vanilla cupcake and a mixture of strawberry and vanilla frosting. Each tier holds cupcakes that are decorated differently for added visual appeal.
Tier 1 (top): Cupcakes were topped with lollipops from a Wilton Multicolor Pastel Lollipop Favor Kit.
Tier 2 (middle): I added buttons to plastic flower rings for a “party favor” cupcake.
Tier 3 (bottom): My daughter and the youngest group really love sprinkles. I found a cute set of flower sprinkles to add to our Lalaloopsy Party cupcakes.
