Thought Invoking Games by ThinkFun
Thinkfun games is a company that was founded by a husband and wife team, Bill Ritchie and Andrea Barthello, in their basement. The idea was to have games that sparked the imagination, inspired learning, and problem solving through play. They started 25 years ago and now are a globally recognized company that are recognized in 60 countries. Their mission to this day remains:
To translate the brilliant ideas of the craziest mathematicians, engineers and inventors into simple toys that can be appreciated by boys and girls around the world.
I was able to play four ThinkFun games with my family. Featured above is Laser Maze Jr. This game features a laser light and mirrors. The player has to light up their rocket by bouncing the beam off strategically placed mirrors. There are 40 different challenges in four different difficulty levels that are easy to switch by just changing out the base cards. In fact this game was so easy to use my eleven year old was able to play without my assistance at all. He liked it and since it was one player he didn’t need to wait around for another person to play with him.
Code Master is also a one player game. It allows the player to move an avatar through challenges that help them to see how computer game programming works, with 60 levels to navigate through.
Compose Yourself is a fun game that allows the player to use music segments to create their own compositions. They can lay the clear cards two different ways and there are plenty of cards to choose from. What makes this game so special is you can go online and type in the numbers from your cards and they pop right on the screen. You can name your composition and hear it played by an orchestra. You can send your masterpiece to others as well. The user friendly site allows you to make songs of varying length.
My favorite game was Rushhour Shift. This game is a two player strategy game where two cars are trying to get to the other side of the road. The other player can block them with cars or even shift the road so the lanes line up differently. This game was easy to learn and play. My boys had it down in no time! I played my husband and we had to play for over an hour because the first two rounds left us tied. He was too competitive to leave it at that. We had a good time playing this game, it’s great for all ages.
One thing I really liked about this brand was that two of the games had nice mesh bags to store the game components in so you do not have to keep the bulky boxes. Thinkfun games have lots of options for all types interests, and age levels. They offer educational games that mix learning with play. I like it when my children play games rather then spend time on video games or television. Thinkfun games allowed them to think and kept them busy and entertained.
