Alton Home Week 2015

I live in a small town in NH called Alton.  The town may be small, but there are BIG events all year long.  Alton may be small, but they really know how to party in a BIG way!  The biggest family event of the summer is Alton Home Week.  When we first moved to Alton, it was just Alton Home DAY- it was just Saturday and Sunday.  Now it actually lasts 9 days!  There are so many activities to do for the family- from young to old!  

August 7 through August 16, 2015, Alton/Alton Bay, NH is celebrating their annual Old Home Week. Our theme this year is “Home, History & Harmony.  You will see on our schedule that the
first weekend provides a great presentation from the Alton Historical Society, not only the
history events of our town, but of our country. The closing weekend sees the return of the
Barbershop Jamboree.

Check out the Kickoff party this year- unfortunately I was working and we missed it.  But I’ll be sure to ask for the night off next year- I don’t want to miss the Kickoff Block Party again!

Everybody LOVES a parade!  Each year, residents line the streets of Alton to watch the floats, cars, kids and groups go by.  Each year there is a theme and one float will win a trophy for best float.  My son had lots of fun when he was in cub scouts.  They decorated a trailer to make it look like a camping site.  We even had marshmallows and a fake campfire.

The New Hampshire Boat Museum presents the 38th annual informal, non-judged vintage boat show at the Alton Bay town dock as part of Alton Old Home Day.  The boat show is fun for all ages.  Does your child love boats?  They will be intrigued by all the different types of boats!

Of course, my son’s favorite part is the FIREWORKS!! Every year, Alton not only has an AMAZING 4th of July Fireworks display, but they also have even MORE fireworks on the first Saturday during Old Home Week.    Kid’s love fireworks!  To make it even more fun, there are vendors around the bay that sell glow-in-the-dark hats, swords, teeth and blinking LED objects.

 Next time you are in the Alton, NH area during the first few weeks of August, be sure to check out all the happenings during Alton Home Week.  It’s a great family event that includes fun events for the WHOLE family!
 

Here are a few events coming up this week:

  • On Thursday, 8/13 – Check out the Dog show at the Alton Bay Bandstand at 6pm.  Bring your dog!  There is a dog parade, photo booth and raffle!  
  • Right after the Dog Show, don’t miss the Ice Cream Sundae Buffet at 7pm- hosted by Jay Mini Gold and Ice cream, Pop’s Clam Shell, Shibley Ice Cream and Stillwell’s Ice Cream
  • On Friday, 8/14– Don’t miss family Bingo at the Pearson Road Senior Center from 1 to 3 pm.  
  • On Saturday, 8/15– The day is full of fun from a Scavenger Hunt, Penny Sale, Chicken BBQ and the Afterglow!
