5 End-Of-Summer Activities to Consider Before Back-To-School Begins

August 5, 2015 by Pam Maynard

The summer is almost over, and school is about to begin. There is still time to add more memories. Children are negotiating the fact that the fun of sleeping in and playing in the yard will be traded for homework.

To help them make a smooth transition, consider these 5 fun summer activity solutions.

Engage in a Movie Marathon

Movies are a great way to bring families together. However, with busy schedules and often not enough time, it’s hard to make family movie night happen consistently.

Whether you have children at home or you’re an adult who still loves watching kid-friendly movies, you can use the tips in this article to host your own family home movie marathon. Everyone is sure to love this fun and exciting event. With the right planning and activities, you and your loved ones will look forward to future movie nights together.

This can be done at the theater or in your home. Going to the theater is always a solid example of quality time especially when it is coupled with dinner at a favorite restaurant.

The lifecycle of movies in theaters is getting shorter, which makes it easy to rent or purchase them in a matter of months. Stock up on the family favorites including candy, chips, and a variety of popcorn.

Visiting the theater can be a great way to explore new things over the summer. If you are interested, you can purchase the Book of Mormon tickets – Broadway, as it is a musical comedy that will delight you.

Go Outdoors

Zip lining has an exhilarating factor that will culminate the summer vacation with high energy. The effect can be raised by the location where the activity takes place.

Find companies such as Sky Valley Zip Tours with breathtaking backdrops. Go shopping for gear such as a helmet that the kids can decorate and purchase family t-shirts.

Zip lining is a great unique and adventurous activity for your teen’s birthday party as well!

Start a Rock Collection

This is a great arts and crafts activity that serves as a time capsule you do not bury. Let the children get creative with colors, pictures, and words.

Using rocks with a variety of shapes and textures will add more spice to this fun family tradition. With tradition on the table, make this a yearly affair or at other times including birthdays and holidays.

Do Science Experiments

With school fast approaching, involve the kids in interesting science experiments. This will get their brains in gear for the impending rigors. Make sure to find funny and easy projects that use items found in the home.

For example, freezing vinegar will produce some hilarious shapes and colors. Or, try baking soda, a half-full water bottle, and a balloon for the best hands-on science activity that will have them hitting the books to answer “how did that happen?”

Making slime is a great experiment to keep those hands and minds busy. We have a great basic slime recipe that you can make your own.

5 End-Of-Summer Activities to Consider Before Back-To-School Begins

Learn a New Trick

When kids go back to school, they want to show off how they have grown or a new trick they learned. There is whistling with a blade of grass, hand shadows, or a dance move. This provides a chance for them to make friends as it lowers the awkwardness that the new surroundings bring.

The end of summer is an annual rite of passage that every child experiences. These tips will build memories and give them something to look forward to next year. It will also prepare them for all the activities that come with returning to school.
