I am super excited to share FinKid with you because they are new to offering clothing here in the US and I think you are going to love them. Their 2015 Spring/Summer collection was the first to be sold in the USA (and Canada) and it is available exclusively via finside.com, an online store brought to you by Scandinavian Textiles Inc.
We received three pieces from the Finkid collection: Matsi (block-stripe long-sleeve tee), Tikkari (block-stripe tee with button-tab), and Tulppa (kids jersey jacket – zip-in inner jacket). All three pieces are made from 97 % Cotton and 3 % Elastane. The combination of these two fabrics is a stretchy and soft piece that even the *most textile sensitive child will find appealing.
*A special note for families with an SPD or ASD child: My son was previously diagnosed with SPD and has been recently diagnosed with Autism. It is very difficult for me to dress him most days. He does wear the Matsi (long-sleeve tee) and Tulppa (kids jersey jacket) almost anytime I ask him to. However, he will not wear the Tikkari shirt because there is a small, dime sized, piece of leather branding on the sleeve that he will not overlook. (He overlooks this same branding piece on the Matsi – I cannot explain why he doesn’t overlook it on the Tikkari.) He loves the Tikkari shirt and how it feels otherwise; he has even asked me to remove the branding piece, but I’m afraid it will damage the shirt so I haven’t removed it. My toddler daughter wears the Tikkari so she can “match” her big brother whenever possible (see photo collage below.)
Matsi (block-stripe long-sleeve tee)
Summery block-stripe long-sleeve tee in soft jersey with solid color elbow patches. In five bright color combinations, a versatile basic for under, or over.
The Matsi block-stripe long-sleeve tee shirt from Finside is very soft and feels comfortable against the skin. I really like the sold color elbows that provide a great barrier from stains on the stripes. My Little Guy said he likes the [cut of the shirt around his] neck and how the shirt feels.
My son has worn the shirt several times and it still looks great several washes later.
Tikkari (block-stripe tee with button-tab)
Bright and cheerful block-stripe tee with colorfully contrasting button-tabs. Slim fit and cut from summery jersey, it is the perfect workwear for sandcastle architects and swimming-pool strikers.
Tulppa (kids jersey jacket – zip-in inner jacket)
Sporty jersey jacket in summery block stripes with pixie hood and pouch pockets in solid colors. The deep neckline in contrasting solid-colors is an eye-catcher.
I am in love with the design of the Tulppa kids jersey jacket. The hood is mine and my son’s favorite. I like that it is pointy at the top and it isn’t too wide and coming into his face. No matter how much he moves around and pulls the hood up, it doesn’t get into his face — that is really great for him.
I find the flap under the top of the zipper to be a great comforting feature for my son. It provides an added barrier between him and the zipper hardware that often irritates him.
Sun Protection Factor 50+
Regardless if you are concerned about the summer sun or the winter rays while hiking on the mountain top, these three Finkid pieces contain a sun protection factor of 50+!
Reuse & Resale
Finkid jackets, overalls and pants are worn by an average of three children and ‘mightily tested’ before they go into well-deserved retirement. Their long-lastingness is reflected in the second-hand market, on eBay for example, where pre-loved finkid products fetch an average of 50% of the new price.
I specifically selected a gender neutral color (they offer several color options) for our Finkid clothing so my youngest three children could benefit from wearing them. I plan to use Finkid clothing for my five-year old boy, three-year old girl, and my ten-month old as they grow. We have very few pieces of clothing in our collection that can boast of being worn by several of our children; I am looking forward to keeping Finkid around for the next few years!
Mom’s Thoughts
I am impressed with the quality of the material used and the softness. After several washes the clothes are just as comfortable and still as vibrant and colorful as they were when they arrived.
The designs are super cute and really fun. I cannot tell you how cute I think my little guy is when he is wearing his hoodie jacket. That pointy top makes me smile – it is really cute.
The kids don’t just look good wearing the Finkid clothing, they feel comfortable too. I didn’t expect my ASD child to take to the tops as well as he did, I have been pleasantly surprised by his appreciation for the long-sleeved shirt and the jacket.
Please visit Finkid for more information on their fun, durable, and comfortable clothing for children.
