Laura Angelina has a background in acting, singing, writing, graphic design and illustration. Stacks of notepads filled with doodles and sketches from her high school days are now coming to life through her books. When not working on the next book, Laura is often found daydreaming while sipping on a cup of hot chocolate.

Randy Williamson has been working since a very early age and is currently Regional President of a United States contracting firm. Randy has as many ideas and projects as there are stars in the sky. Creating children’s books that inspire and bring joy to others is one of those projects that have come true. Outside of work you may find Randy scuba diving, skiing or simply spending time with his four children and grandson.

My Review:

Do your children have a favorite book that is well-loved and lovingly worn? My son had quite a few of those when he was younger. One of his favorites was What are You so Grumpy About. It always made him smile when he was cranky, made him giggle when he was sleepy and even made ME laugh, even when we read it 3 times in one night.

A Very Squeaky Mystery will be that kind of book! How do I know? I read it out loud to my son (yes, he’s 12 years old) and he loved it. He was always a big “mystery” fan- Scooby was his favorite cartoon character for 3 years in a row. He even dressed up like Scooby two Halloweens in a row!

Kids love mysteries! If there is something to be figured out, then there is a good reason to keep turning the pages. A Very Squeaky Mystery is definitely a page turner! The twins, Kevin and Scott, are just your typical curious little boys. The author and illustrator portrayed them perfectly. The dialogue and illustrations worked together to weave the story into your mind. Kevin and Scott went on some midnight adventures, similar to ones my son used to take, to figure out what was making that squeaky noise. Of course, my son doesn’t have any siblings, but he never lacked for a partner. He had many imaginary friends and stuffed animals.

Like many little boys, they have a great imagination and try to figure out why their original plan didn’t work. Each night they are unsuccessful at solving the squeaky mystery. BUT, they do NOT give up! Some kids would just give up after the first attempt to catch the squeaky mouse or after the second attempt to catch the squeaky bat. The twins don’t give up, they just fall asleep, just like my son used to do! He used to try to stay up late to watch the ball fall on New Year’s Eve or to catch Santa in the act of leaving presents. His eyes would close 20 minutes later and he would be out for the night.

The boys are very smart- they figured out that if the squeaky mystery animal took the Peanut Butter one night and the Jelly the next, the third night they would guard the bread. After all, Peanut Butter and Jelly together are best on bread as a sandwich. Of course, the boys even made their own armor with pots and pans because they were sure it was a P, B and J sandwich monster coming for the bread. The boys fell asleep again. But this time, their armor actually helped them catch their squeaky mystery guest. One of the pots had landed upside down and captured the squeaky little creature.

I always love picture books that teach a lesson or two even though your children never realize it. In A Very Squeaky Mystery, we learn about perseverance. The boys never gave up trying to catch the squeaky creature. We also learned that children are curious by nature and that combined with imagination will take your kids on lots of fun adventures.

A Very Squeaky Mystery is one of those picture books that your children will ask you to read over and over again. I only wish my son were 6 years younger so I could read it to him at bedtime, over and over!
