AKC has updated their website with new Breed Selector and You vs. Breed features. These added components allow you to dive deeper to get a better understanding of what breed fits best for your lifestyle as well as what breed you most closely relate to based on what our algorithm deduces from your social media habits. Check them both out and see what results YOU get!
Breed Selector: Thinking about getting a dog but not sure which breed is the best fit for your lifestyle? AKC.org’s Breed Selector helps you get a jump start on your research with a simple, interactive questionnaire. The simple questionnaire asks questions like your location, living situation, household habits, etc. and, based on your answers, provides 5 breeds that fit well within your current lifestyle for you to learn about, as well as similar breeds.
It’s funny- the Breed Selector really seemed way off to the kind of dogs I have owned or want to own. Right now we have a Border Collie and a German Shepherd. We have always had Labrador Retrievers, but we lost our Yellow Lab Gracie (she was 15 years old) 6 months ago. I was surprised that I didn’t see the kinds of dogs we have raised.
I did the survey again with different answers, and still didn’t come up with any of my favorite breeds. I think maybe there should be a few more questions to help make a better choice for your family. One question should be how old are your children. I would also ask what type of dogs you already own.
You vs. Breed: Ever wonder what your animal spirit would be? Now you can know if you’re more of a laidback bulldog or a playful retriever with AKC’s You vs. Breed. The feature allows you to pick a breed of your choice and, based on your social media habits, find out how similar you are to that breed. Our algorithm evaluates energy, cleanliness, sociability, independence, playfulness, and more.
