When my preschooler was a toddler he was fascinated with baseball fields. All he wanted to do during park days was run out onto the field and pretend he was playing. Now that he is older, he still wants to play baseball. This morning he woke up, dressed himself, and began waking up his dad and big brother to go outside to play with him. If you don’t know, my little guy has SPD and will NOT wear clothes. It can take upwards of two hours to get him ready to leave the house because he will put clothes on and take them back off screaming.
This morning’s event was sparked by his successful first “home run” last night after dinner. My big guys had to jump the privacy fence into our neighbors yard to find his Trick Pitch Ball from Backyard Sports. While they were on the other side my Little Guy came running over screaming “I HIT MY FIRST HOME RUN! I KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE FIELD!” His excitement was mommy happy-cry worthy.
The bat he made his first home run on is from Backyard Sports and is called the Sonic Boom Bat. This is a great bat for little ones to get excited about baseball with because of the bulky barrel. Also, the barrel is hallow and has an “Oversized Sonic Boom chamber” to make a loud noise when the ball is hit. The noise level depends on how hard the hit is. For us, it is just enough to let him know that he made contact but not too loud to scare nearby children or result in neighbor complaints.
When my Little Guy isn’t outside playing baseball, he is inside playing the new Backyard Sports mobile game. After opening our Backyard Sports packages, we found instructions for downloading the game include. Each product contains two codes. The first code is to unlock the product in the game and the second code is to confirm. One code will be found sticking onto the product iteself and the second code is etched/designed directly on the toy. They call this setup “mobile game-enabled sports accessories”.

Another bat we received to try was the Triple Threat Bat. Bats Finder states that when choosing a bat for a child, you might go by age; many bat size charts include the most popular lengths by age. This bat has three size with different textures to perform three different hit techniques. Two sides have a firm raised plastic design on them and the third has a very soft/plush raised design. My older son only knows one way to hit – hard. This bat is a great way to teach various hitting techniques in a visual way. It took him a little while to get the hang of it but I like the results.

Backyard Sports has a new basketball hoop that can be used indoor or outdoor. The motorized rim makes playing more challenging. My youngest one likes to see how fast he can get the ball into the hoop while the hoop is big. He gets a great big giggle when it sizes smaller before he can get the ball in.

What Does Mom Think?
I like that the mobile game encourages active play as well. The more swings on the bat or buckets on the hoop that are made more codes are unlocked. The kids can scan the codes to unlock video game power-ups on the mobile game during indoor play.
Both of my boys are having a great time playing with the Backyard Sports products we received. My husband and I love seeing the happy looks on their faces when they master a new technique, hit another home run, or make a basket in the hoop that was smaller than expected.
