Children and animals go well together. They’re both very similar in some ways, which is why buying your kids pets to keep them company is one of the best ways to stimulate the growth of social skills and help them to learn about the world. While some people opt for the standard animals, others like to think outside of the box as you’ll soon see. In this article, I’m going to discuss some of the most commonly requested animals kids beg their parents for in 2014. You might well be shocked to read some of the species listed, but this information comes from a nationwide survey, and so it’s 100% accurate. Don’t get me wrong, there’ll be some you’re familiar with, so let’s take a look…
1. Horse
For some reason, it’s usually little girls that most want a horse, and the results showed this. Out of all the animals on the questionnaire, it scored the most points. Owning a horse is a social thing. You’ll almost certainly join a club where others with horses hang out, and this means your kids will get to meet lots of like minded people. Finding a good horse agistment is simple thanks to the internet, so you won’t have to worry about making sure they’re looked after.
2. Dog
Dogs are good for kids because they have a naturally friendly nature that almost makes them a real member of the family. They’ve got a playful attitude, and seem to have a built-in ability to recognise when children are feeling low. Dogs can also teach your little one’s responsibility, which is obviously a good thing.
3. Iguana
Lizards make interesting pets. They’re great for impressing children, and owning one is also a brilliant way to encourage your little ones to learn about evolution and the history of the planet. This is probably one of the main reasons why it ranks in the #3 spot. You see; these creatures were around long before you and I, and so they have certain qualities most children won’t regularly encounter.
4. Cat
Coming in at number four, we have the domestic cat. While some people might be allergic to them, others find them to be incredibly good company. Also, cats don’t actually take that much looking after, and so they’re perfect if you don’t want to worry about going for long walks or keeping them occupied. For the most part, cats will fend for themselves. All you really need to do is deal with vet bills and food.
5. Spider
Yes, I hate them too, but the fifth most commonly requested pet was a spider, and in particular, a tarantula. I suppose some kids just like gross stuff, right? Still, any pet they desire (that isn’t dangerous) will basically have the same effect on them.
So, after reading about those five pet options, I wonder which you’ll decide to get for your children this year? Are you brave enough to a lizard or tarantula? I certainly wouldn’t be.
Catch you back here next time!
