When we are asked to list an emergency contact for work or just about any other purpose, most of us select our spouse or some other family member. This contact will be less likely to be directly impacted by the same natural disaster in your local area.
Let the person you select know you have selected them as your emergency contact. They ought to know what is expected of them in the event they are called upon to help out after a disaster.
Emergency Meeting Spot

They may not understand the magnitude of calling that number. At the same time, they may need to be educated about when to not dial the number as well. Some modern home security systems will automatically dial authorities during a break-in or natural disaster, but they might also have a feature where kids can discreetly call for help with the push of a button. Have a lesson together and teach them how to recite their address quickly.
