3 Ways to Protect Your Furniture from Holiday Traffic

December 9, 2017 by Pam Maynard

The holidays are going to get a little hectic soon, and there may be extra traffic throughout your home. Relatives and guests will be visiting, and you are somewhat concerned about the impact this will have on your furniture. Tips and suggestions to keep your furniture free from scratches, stains, and other damage include the following:

3 Ways to Protect Your Furniture from Holiday Traffic

Move It

If you are expecting big crowds of guests, especially during a major party, it may be wise to move your more expensive furniture pieces. This will keep them out of harm’s way, and you can just put these pieces back into place when the holiday season is over. If you can’t move a specific piece to another room due to its size or shape, just place it in an area of the room such as in a corner or behind another furniture article where it will be out of harm’s way.

Cover It

Some furniture can be kept from children’s spills, adult beverage rings, and other damage by covering it. For example, you may own a beautiful wood-grain dining table and are concerned about the amount of use it will be getting during this season. Seated dinners, buffet service, and other usages will expose it to damage. Purchase inexpensive table pad coverings (restaurant supply stores carry this by the roll), cut to size, and lay it on the table. Secure with a heavy-duty tape if necessary. Cover the pad will an attractive tablecloth and your table should be fine even for heavy use.

On a smaller scale, you can strategically place doilies, placemats, or coasters on specific furniture articles to prevent any mishaps or damage.

Replace It

If your furniture is older, worn out, not of a good quality, or just plain out of style, you can do your very best to protect it. What you might want to consider after the holiday season is over is purchase new furniture from places like Chris Furniture Inc to replace it. This will definitely take the worry out of furniture issues while you have guests in the house. And it will make your holiday season a little brighter, knowing that you are going to go furniture shopping when all is said and done.

The last thing you need to do during this busy season is stress out over the furnishings in your home. Follow these three tips so you can have a worry-free and happy holiday experience, surrounded by loving family and friends.
