DIY Unicorn Ornament #craft

November 27, 2017 by Misty Stephens

This year Unicorns are “In.”  They are popular from clothing, to blankets, to toys, and decorations.  Since they are so cute, and my daughter loves them , we made some easy DIY Unicorn Ornaments to decorate our tree, and to give as gifts.

Materials:

  • White glitter glass ornaments
  • Black paint marker
  • White felt
  • Hot Pink felt
  • Bows, Gems, other adornments
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue
  • Clay
  • Silver paint
  • Hot pink ribbon with wire edges

First take the clay and roll out a skinny rope shape.  Fold it in half ans spin the two lengths together to form a spiral horn.  Once it dries paint it silver.  At some point cut out ears from the white felt, and smaller ear shapes from the pink to go in front of the white.  Then I drew on the eyes with the black paint marker directly on the glass ornaments.  Once the horn paint is dry you will be ready to assemble your unicorns.

Plug the glue gun in and glue the horn onto the metal top right in front of the ornament loop.  Then I took the ears and placed the pink and white together.  I glued the bottom and pinched the ears in so they would have a nice shape.  My daughter just glued hers without pinching them.  Next glue on the bows and gems to decorate the unicorns’s head.  Last I added a mane with the wired ribbon.  I cut a piece off for each ornament at least 4 to 6 inches long.  Then I pinched it together and glued it right behind the ornament cap.  Next I twisted the ribbon and glued it down the back of the ornament.  On one I made a cool undulated mane shape.  Then the rest of the ribbon is left to hang below the unicorn.

My daughter really had fun making her unicorns, and so did I.  They came out really cute, and were actually so easy to make.  Right now they are all on a silver fiber optic tree I have in the living room.  It is cool to have an entire Unicorn tree.  Soon I will take them down and wrap them up as gifts for my family and friends.  It is a tradition to give a handmade ornament to them every year.  This year I know they will all love their Unicorns.
