Do’s and Don’ts While Shopping for Your Child’s Clothes

August 12, 2017 by Pam Maynard

We can all agree that children are the most beautiful creation of God and generally beautiful things require more attention. Usually, kids have soft skin which is five times sensitive than adult men. Therefore, you must be careful about what dress or products you are choosing for your baby. They can have a tremendous effect on your kid’s skin. Many ‘first-time moms’ confessed; they get confused about what to buy and what to avoid. If you are also wondering about what to do while buying a dress for your kid and what not to do, then don’t worry. Here are some of the most important dos and don’ts that might help you.

shopping for kid's clothes

The do’s:

1) Always choose the right fabric

There are various kinds of fabrics available in the market. But before choosing any of them, you must understand that a kid’s skin is much more sensitive than you. The softer, smoother, and skin friendlier dress you will buy the better. Kids usually tend to have rashes and itchiness if they are wearing something too harsh for their skin. That’s why your best option should be buying something made of cotton. Though, make sure you buy 1 or 2 sizes larger than your need because cotton can shrink 10% from its original size after its first wash.

2) Give priority to comfort over appearance

Some dresses look very fancy and pretty, and you might be tempted to buy them. But before doing something, you need to find out how that dress is going to make your kid feel. Because, in case the dress makes her uncomfortable, then even if she looks like a fairy princess, you as a caring mother should not go for something like that. A good example of that would be thick collars.

The don’ts:

1) Avoid Tightness

You should avoid tight clothes as much as possible such as jeans, elastic shorts or pants etc. The elastic rubbing can cause skin rashes. It’s also extremely uncomfortable and itchy for your kid. Try to buy something which is not made of elastic as well as not very tight.

2) Don’t go for the expensive items

It would be wise if you avoid buying expensive baby clothes for your little-loved one. First of all, children’s growth rate is pretty fast. If you buy something very costly, it may happen that the dress will not fit her after some time. Therefore, the money will be completely wasted. Second, not all the clothes can be used in all season. A sweater can be used only in winter whereas a light t-shirt should be perfect for a summer. Sometimes, an expensive dress might have costly ornaments, patches, and zip closures which can create irritation to your kid’s skin.

Conclusion

Always look for the clothes that will not create any breathing problems for your kid. If necessary observe your baby. See for yourself how she is feeling wearing the new dress you have bought. If she is crying, then the dress might be causing distress. It’s better if you don’t purchase something in a bulk just because a sale is going on. Money is important, but not more than your child’s health.
