Finding a Decorating Theme and Creating a Healthier Sleep Environment

July 25, 2017 by Pam Maynard

Both small and large spaces can seem challenging when homeowners want to embark on decorating them. Using the right approach will allow you to arrange the rooms and maximize on the amount of space available. By combining color and lighting, choosing a style and the best storage options for your design needs, you can look forward to decorating your space with ease.

Research and Ideas

Research ideas that are based on the feel and style that you want. Go through design publications and collect interior decor ideas that can work for your space. Look for themes and visual concepts that are likely to endure for a long period of time.

Choose a Design Theme

  • The theme that you select should ideally grow and evolve with you. A timeless and subtle theme is easier to maintain, especially when you are not planning to redecorate soon. Design themes such as floral and marine are simple, fun and easy to adapt.
  • Determine whether you want to incorporate the theme in your overall design or restrict it to accessories.
  • Consider the appearance of the room and use it to guide you on the layout of the space. Some themes may require you to give the whole room a complete overhaul with tasks such as buying new pieces, removing carpeting and painting the walls. Other themes may involve a few subtle changes like an additional lampshade and different cushions.

Color Scheme

Choose an appropriate color scheme for the theme that works well with the space. For smaller rooms, you can create an illusionary effect of space with muted colors and neutrals. Pick colors that you look forward to seeing every day and themes that you will not rapidly outgrow. Although colors do not have to match, they should coordinate. Read a matress review here.

Healthy Sleep Environment

Getting as much sleep as you need each night is one of the things that you can do to preserve your health. Sleep deprivation can lead to long-term effects that will compromise your emotional and physical wellbeing. Restful sleep enables your body to heal itself and re-energize.

Preparing your Bedroom

If you carry out multiple tasks such as work in your bedroom, your body will not associate it with bedtime and it may be hard to make the smooth transition to sleeping at night. Your mind and body need to associate the room with sleep and relaxation. Avoid using a computer, stressful work, watching television and any other activity that prevents you from sleeping on time.

  • A comfortable bedroom and bed will make it easier for you to sleep. Clean your bedroom regularly to keep it safe and healthy rather than a neglected space that can cause allergies which disrupt your sleep.
  • Keep the bed clean by washing your pillowcases and sheets frequently. They will smell good and enhance your comfort while you sleep.
  • Clutter can be distracting and tidying up your room will help to improve the quality of air.
  • Maintain the mattress you use and replace it as often as recommended. Firm mattresses that contour naturally to your body and sleeping position are worthwhile choices to avoid pressure points that cause physical issues such as pain.
