What It Takes to Be a Professional Stay-At-Home Mom

July 6, 2017 by Pam Maynard

You’ve made the decision to leave the workforce so that you can stay at home with your children. While some might look at this as a risky decision because it means one less income in the home, there are numerous benefits of being with your children and caring the home during the day. You won’t need to leave your children with a sitter, and you’ll have the opportunity to witness the special moments that take place. There are a few tips to keep in mind to be a successful stay-at-home mom.

Make a Schedule

When the day is over, there are things that you might not have completed. You need to get your children and yourself on a schedule as soon as you can so that everyone knows what to expect during the day. Plan meal times, when you’re going shopping during the week and when you’re going to clean the house. If the family knows when activities are taking place, then it will make life a bit easier so that you can enjoy time for yourself at the end of the day.

Set a Budget

Since there is only one income in the home now, you’re going to need to create a budget so that you can better manage the finances of the family. Consider joining an online savings group, like Joinesty, so that you can receive notifications of deals for clothing, food, and other items that you might buy online. One way that you can work with a budget is to create envelopes for the necessities that you have to pay, such as the utilities and the car payment. Put money into each envelope so that each payment is made on time during the month.

Talk to Other Moms

Set up a network of other moms who stay at home. Organize play dates with the children, and send messages to discuss tips on how to deal with some of the issues that arise with your kids. You’ll have adults to talk to during the day, which can make it feel like you’re back at the office, and it can help with getting lonely when you’re home with just the kids all day.

Make a List

Even at a young age, children can learn how to help you with the chores in the house. They can help take clothes from the washing machine and dryer. Children can help pick up their toys. Keep everyone in the family on track with keeping the home clean together by making a list of jobs to follow during the week.

As a mom who is now at home, you need to have organization in your life. If you make lists and set a budget, then you can be a success while at home. Enlist help when it’s needed, and enjoy spending the days with your family.
