About Flyaway
Flyaway is the first and longest running vertical wind tunnel open to the public! After a quick classroom briefing, they will assist you with your flight gear and then teach you the basics of human flight in their vertical wind tunnel. No experience is necessary. Their instructors will be there to guide you through the entire process as you spread your wings and learn how to FLY!
A few weeks ago we traveled to Gatlinburg on our vacation. Midweek we ventured out to Pigeon Forge to try indoor skydiving at Flyaway. The instructors were very friendly and must have been able to read me like a book. I was a little nervous at first, however, they were joking and made me laugh. You can’t fear something when you’re laughing by the way. I am afraid of heights but desperately wanted to fly and finally got the chance.

Steps to Get Started
First, you attend a short training class to view the safety video and learn the hand signals. You can’t hear in the wind tunnel so using hand signals is the way to communicate with your instructor.
They provide all of the necessary gear and you sign a waiver and then you’re ready to fly! Disclaimer: I recommend wearing tennis shoes, otherwise, they have some you can borrow if necessary.

I was the last to fly out of my crew and it was amazing. If you are a thrill seeker or just a stay-at-home mom like me, you must try Flyaway at least once in your life. By the end of the flight session, I wanted to keep flying. Would I do it again? Yes, of course! It was a blast!
