When we have had a car for long time, it starts to tell us things, thinks like, “you need to repair me”, or “maybe it is time to trade me in.” Of course, your car isn’t actually telling you these things, but giving hints in subtle (or not so subtle) ways.
5 Signs It’s Time for a New Car
I. Your vehicle doesn’t accelerate like it used to. It’s actually quite terrifying when this happens because it is always at worst time — when you’re passing another vehicle! I will never forget the time I was attempting to pass another vehicle on a two lane highway, when my SUV decided it didn’t want to. The result was having to whip back behind the vehicle I thought I could pass before the oncoming semi-truck became too close!
II. Your repair bills are more regular, and more expensive, than a new car payment! First it was the starter, and then it was your a/c compressor. Next came the heater coil, wiper motor, new battery…. and now it’s your transmission! The repair bills are piling up — but are they worth it?
III. You’re afraid to go out of town driving your vehicle because you don’t think it will make it! If you don’t think your vehicle is safe enough to drive out of town, it probably isn’t safe enough to be driving in town either!
IV. Sometimes reverse doesn’t work like it should. So, you have a great older vehicle, nothing has ever been wrong with it — but — it doesn’t always like to go into reverse.
V. It has quirks that only you know how to work with. For example, after you attempt to turn your car on, and it doesn’t work, you wait five minutes, run water across the motor, and jump on your right foot ten times while holding the door handle and yelling something sweet and loving (so it doesn’t get mad at you…)
Is this you?
If you said yes, it may be time for a new car!
