Family Safety: How Parents Everywhere Can Upgrade Their Home for Optimal Security

February 11, 2017 by Pam Maynard

When it comes to the safety of the home, parents have several options of protecting children and the items that are inside the house. As a parent, it’s important to be let the family know that they are safe and secure in their environment. There are companies that can help with securing the property as well as simple solutions that don’t cost a lot of money that can add plenty of protection.

Dogs

One of the simplest ways to offer a bit of protection for the home, especially the outside, is to get a dog or two. You could have a dog inside the home to alert you if there is someone at the door or at a window.

You want to train the dog so that it knows who it can relate to and who it should avoid. You should also train it to bark and alert you when something is wrong outside the house.

Security Systems

A security system can be added to the home to offer protection even when you’re not there. You can get a company like Bonds Security Products to install a system that will go off if someone opens a door or a window. A doorbell camera is another great option.

There are silent alarms that you can get that will send a call to the local police department and systems that will make a loud sound that will alert you and others in the area.

Wiring

Don’t let burglars have a way to turn off the power or alarm system by hiding the wiring on the outside of the home. Loose and exposed wires are the first things that burglars look for as they can cut the connection to the home. Hide the wires underneath anything from a panel of siding to a wooden box that is disguised to look like it’s a part of the home.

False Appearances

Always make it seem like someone is at home. You could get timers for the lights if you know that you’ll be gone or a few pictures that are placed on the shades to make it look like someone is inside the house at all times. Don’t leave newspapers and mail sitting around as this can be a trigger to burglars that you aren’t there.

When it comes to protecting the home, you might need to use a little imagination. However, if you think about the design of the house and what a burglar might see, then you can come up with ideas to add protection. Seek help from a local police department or security company if needed.
