In Home Pests Are Not The Bees Knees: 4 Tips For Exterminating Them Eternally

February 10, 2017 by Pam Maynard

Pests bring with them the potential for disease and considerable structural damage to your home. Many pests consist of colonies of thousands or millions of individuals, which means that you need to get rid of all of them. These four tips will help you eradicate pests.

Castile Soap

Bee hives and wasps nests’ may be gotten rid of using castile soap or a biodegradable dish detergent such as Dawn dish soap, explains the Mother Nature Network. To do this, use your garden hose with an attached keg of the detergent mixed in a 1:10 ratio of detergent to water. This works best if the nest is located on or near the ground.

Borax and Pesticides

Borax is a natural powder that will kill pests but not cause major environmental damage or harm to your pets, explains the Get Rid of Things website. You can sprinkle the Borax powder around the places where pests are getting into your home, such as along the trail ants are using to get into your pantry. Borax is effective against bees, wasps, ants and other insects. Carpenter ants and termites must be eliminated with professional-grade pesticides that are sprayed directly into the nest and the walls and foundation of your home.

Traps

Traps can also be an effective means of exterminating pests. After getting rid of the pests’ access points, install traps. For bees or wasps, a 2-liter soda bottle with the top cut off and inverted will catch any bees that were away from the hive after it was removed. Live traps can also be installed by professionals such those at Ace Walco & Sons Termite & Pest Control. Professionals like this can check the traps on a regular basis and remove the pests that are caught.

Hive Relocation

If you have honeybees in your home, garage, shed or yard, consider a pest service that can relocate the hive. Colony collapse disorder, pesticides and other concerns have caused some species of bees to be on the endangered species list. Beekeepers may be able to remove the hive and relocate it. Getting rid of the hive with the queen in it gets rid of your bee problem.

Pests are not just annoying. They can cause severe allergic reactions, painful bites and illnesses from exposure to their droppings. In addition to making improvements to your home so that pests cannot get inside, these four actions will help you to get rid of them for good.
