Nesting Dolls Are All Unique #review

February 16, 2017 by Pam Maynard

Nesting Dolls are so beautiful. They are handcrafted, hand painted and all completely unique. Where do you find the authentic Russian Nesting Dolls? TheRussianStore.com of course.

What is the history behind Nesting Dolls? I’ve read several articles including one that said they are a symbol of fertility. They are also depicted as fairytale characters and families. The first Russian doll set was carved in 1890 and consisted of 8 dolls that stacked inside each other.

I have found so many different types that are created today. From celebrities to political figures, to animals and traditional dolls, these are amazing. I didn’t realize that there are so many different kinds, sizes, shapes, and styles. Each set has its own theme. There are a lot of sets that features flowers and the traditional dress of Russia.

The Classic 8 Piece Wooden Nesting Doll set would make a great gift for anyone and any occasion. The red roses are painted as a bud on the smallest doll and it slowly blooms as the dolls get bigger. When placing them as single dolls, I like to make sure they are in line so you can see the flower blooming. They are really cool.

Tourists purchase them as souvenirs, gifts, and tchotchkes. They vary in sizes. Traditionally, Babushka can be anywhere from 3 to 30 dolls in each set. The largest one ever made was 51 piece set, made in 2003.

You can purchase the dolls, in wood form to decorate and paint yourself. They are really neat because they start out as wooden shapes and nothing else. Imagine making a set that depicts your family or your favorite animals.

The second set I received is the Sisters With Toys Matryoshka. They are all girl dolls that have their favorite stuffed toy. The bright colors make them stand out and will be a great conversation starter.

The two sets I received are similar, yet very different. The traditional red rose 8-piece set looks different than the ones online, but that’s what makes it unique. No two sets are exactly the same.

For more information on The Russian Store, go online and visit. You will find so many beautiful traditional Russian souvenirs that will make great gifts for friends, family or even yourself.
