The Importance Of Dinner In Childs Life

August 16, 2012 by Pam Maynard

What’s the dinner time at your home? Does the time of dinner at your home vary? Everyone heat up their own food in the microwave at different time. Eating dinner together with the family is the happiest time and the benefits of eating together will last longer especially if you make dinner time a regular activity. Eating meal together gives a positive impact of dining with the family. According to the survey it is observed that child who doesn’t eat dinner with the families tends to use alcohol, tobacco or drugs.

When the parents eat meal together with their kids, then they eat more healthier and balanced meal. It also gives them a chance to talk with one another and share their daily activities. It is also an instrumental way to connect the kids with the parents and know what’s happening in their lives. Research has also proved that kids who have their meal wit h their parents are less involved in the fight and get suspended from the school.

There are many things which can be discussed round the table like:

1. Ask everyone to share his or her favorite part of the day.
2. Discuss an activity the family can do together.
3. Plan the next day’s dinner together.
4. Share your own childhood memories.
5. Talk to your kids about a book they’re reading or a movie they’ve seen.

Having dinner together is like the opportunity for both the parents and the child to come close with each other. This enables the parents to know about their kid’s likes, dislikes and daily life. It also teaches the kids about the table manners. Children are at most times messy eaters, using their little fingers to help and gobble the food into their mouths; let them wash their hands again after the meal. Parent’s messy finger prints on their walls and furniture. Table manners for children should just be a normal way of life. Being a parent you should always praise and reinforce good behavior.

Be specific about what impressed you so that they can repeat the good thing. The fact that your child showed good manners and table etiquette while a guest in someone’s home is something to be proud of. It is a reflection of the type of background your child is being raised in. Another important lesson in manners and etiquette for children is meeting and greeting guests. Children are never too young to learn the art of good hospitality for family and guests.  Child can never be too young to learn this valuable rule of etiquette and good manners, a warm and friendly greeting is essential.

Make sure that dinner is served at same time every night and this is the appropriate time when the family get chance to sit together.  We can say that breakfast is also a good time to gather and have the food. Sometimes what happen in the morning parents always stay busy because they have to drop the kids to school and go to office also. So, they couldn’t spend enough time talking with each other, therefore dinner is the most suitable time where they can spend at least half an hour together.
