I typically don’t read historic novels, however, this series caught my attention. This series by Mariel Grey is set in the Georgian era, a time of horse drawn carts, men and women in society and where manners and being proper was expected. In Volume II, Lady Monique and Stanton find their way to each other.

Monique is society. She knows the ins and outs of it. She knows she is to choose a husband before she becomes a spinster, however, she hasn’t quite found the one that meets all her needs. She wants someone who doesn’t just think of her as a wife. She wants someone who understands her, who challenges her, who makes her excited to be around him. But the time is almost here where she will be out of options. And, without her wedding a man with a title and plenty of money, her family will be ruined because her brother was bad with the family finances.

Stanton returns to England after many years in the United States. His main focus is causing shame to the woman who destroyed his family. His father was in love with Lady Monique’s mother but she refused to marry him because he didn’t have a title. So, he married his second choice (Stanton’s mother) and proceeded to make all their lives miserable. Stanton adored his mother and after her death, he went to England to seek revenge. What Stanton didn’t plan on was falling for the beautiful, intriguing, Lady Monique.

Can Stanton put aside his hatred of her mother and let him love Monique? Can Monique put aside her need for a husband with a title and love Stanton? Against all odds, will their relationship falter or stand the test of time?

About the author
From the moment she could put pen to paper, Mariel Grey knew she wanted to be a writer. Like all good adventures however, it didn’t happen overnight; it was after several decades of working in litigation that the desire to create dramatic worlds and characters became too great to ignore. Her first foray into historical romance, Surrender of Trust, explored the grime and glamour of regency horse racing, following the determined but impoverished Lucy Goodwin and upright Lord Chalifour. Her second novel, A Gentleman’s Surrender, introduced the innocent Lady Monique and tortured Mr. Stanton, both struggling to find love in a world filled with deceit.

Though entirely at home in the ballrooms and street alleys of London past, Mariel Grey is currently working on a contemporary story set in Florida, a landscape dear to the author’s heart. When she isn’t conjuring words on her computer screen, Grey can be found on the water fishing, snorkeling, and enjoying the incredible natural beauty of her home.

Mariel has a wonderful husband (the hero of her own romantic story) as well as two mischievous rescue kittens (who are quite happy to play the role of villains). In addition to being a dutiful wife and animal wrangler, Mariel is a member of the Romance Writers of America and affiliated chapter of the Ancient City Romance Authors.
