Family Finance: How to Handle Your Money After a Catastrophic Injury

November 27, 2016 by Pam Maynard

No matter who their victims are, accidents don’t ever happen at a convenient time. In fact, they almost always happen at the worst possible time an accident could happen. You’re not alone. Victims are often left scratching their heads and wondering how they will ever get all of their bills paid through the crisis. The following is some information on how your family can handle money after a catastrophic injury.

Ask Supporters for Help

The first thing you want to do when you suffer a catastrophe is see if you can get some support from your family members and friends. If they are your true supporters, and they have the funds, they should have no problem assisting you with what you need. You may be able to gather enough money to make it through the rough times.
Sell Some Items

Usually, people can find items that they can sell during a crisis. Examples of some of the items that you and your family can sell are items such as electronics, vehicles, clothing and furniture. Outlets that you can use are yard sales, flea markets, classified sites and online auction sites. You can have some family members help you to conduct the sales. You can pull in quite a bit of cash using this method.
Take Loans

Next, you may want to try for some loans that can help you get through this difficult time. Installment loans may be a good option for you since you can get a year or more to pay them back.
Get a Lawsuit Loan

You need to speak to an attorney like those from McLaughlin & Lauricella, P.C. at some point. You may qualify for a lawsuit loan if your personal injury attorney tells you that you have a good chance at winning the cash. Lenders provide funds to people who are waiting for money from a court case like the one you are dealing with. Those funds can help you survive during a long and drawn out procedure.
File for Disability

You can file for disability if the damages from the accident are going to render you disabled for more than 12 months. It may take a while for you to get the funds, but you can at least put the case in motion.

Any of the above options can help you and your family to make it through your recovery. You will make it if you keep fighting to survive.
